I think that he can, but will have to beat Lagat or one of the other sub 13 studs!!!!

I think he absolutely can medal it will really depend on how the race goes and how everyone feels. His odds aren't the most fantastic but they are a lot better than a lot of the American 5000m runners have had in past. Its definitely the best 5000m field we have put up for the WC probably ever. Good Luck TEG, Lagat and Solinsky.
He can medal, but he won't! Heck any athlete can medal.
He's just going to be one of the other runners who only wanted to just get into the final.
Just you watch
Not true. In just about every interview of Teg, he says he is not satisfied with just being in the final. He tasted that Bronze medal in Osaka. He probably could taste pennies for weeks after that, losing by only 0.03 to Kipsiro. I think he will walk off that track dissatisfied without A) a medal or B) a brand spankin new sub-13 PB. He's in this race for hardware, baby. Nothing less.
I don't think this race will be slower than 13:00. Teg will have to PR by a lot in order to medal.
Hope you are right about that. He would be one of the few athletes who are at this championships for hardware.
Let's see what he does
i would be satisfied if he even prs , runs to his full potential.
these sub par performances that some of the athletes have been doing- just ain't cutting it
Hell, 13:15 will win this. Bekele will start his kick with 800 to go.
I like that fact that Teg mentioned he was focusing on putting himself in position before the real kicking starts. 10 meters at the bell can make a huge difference.
Unfortunately, I think the pace will be too hot for his kick to matter. He can medal in a 13:15+ race, but I doubt Bekele lets it go that slow.
Where there is a 10K, Teg has a shot at medalling. Next?
Is Lagat running?

That's actually a good question. After the 5000 heats, he was wheeled off the track in a wheelchair and received stitches for a cut from someone's spikes. I dont know how bad it is...i haven't heard anything since it happened, but I hope he's ok. If he is running, I wonder if it will affect him.
post race: no
he can apparently get 8th though not bad

which athletes are you talking about? Par = average, I would say most all of our athletes have been in the top half of races. Hell when you make the final you are already above average. It has been an above average world champs for the US 800-marathon crew. Probably the best non-African country performance.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
