Who out there has taken part in the 5th Avenue Mile? Going to run it this year. What are/were your thoughts on it? Slower than a track? Hard to judge pacing? Seems like it'll just be a fun day all around... thanks in advance

Hi, I have run it the past 3 years and although I do not run the mile anywhere else, I cannot imagine I would run it faster on the track. First 400 people go out way too fast, next 400 is uphill and if you are strong you start passing a lot of them, crest the hill and you go down next 400, so last 800 you see the finish but save some for last 100 as it is FAR. I have such a blast there. I run ultras but this is one of my favorite races out there. Going against your peers in agegroups is very motivating. Sticking around to see the elites....last year I saw Lagat run his first road race there. It was so much fun. Yes, a fast race.
