Independent Euro,
Be happy with underachieving? Just because we are better than you doesnt mean we should be happy with the results.
Should the US be happy if our basketball team lost to a bad Fiji team in the gold medal match of the Olympics because most countries would be happy to have been in the game?
No. You fail.
That's not what I said at all! If you can't understand sub-text, let me spell it out to you!
America is the most powerful sporting nation in the world, across all sports:- swimming, athletics, boxing, etc. This is partly due to being the richest nation in the world and also due to a very large and diverse socio-economic population.
They also happen to be, in general (though not universally), the most arrogant and patronising nation, in that they cannot accept that from time to time there will be individuals from other nations who are more talented and better equipped (genetically) than the best the USA can offer. Rather than accept this fact, various US supporters will whine on about drugs, conspiracies, etc.
As an example for you to get your head round. How many US athletes have thrown the javelin over 85m this year? None.
How many Finns (with a much smaller population than the US) have thrown over 85m? 4 (Four)!
Does that mean that all Finns are drug cheats? No. It's because javelin throwing is the national pastime over there and all kids throw the javelin. BUT, they're no good at anything else.
In the US, while half the kids there are too fat to take up any sport, the other 30 million, or however many there are, will choose from a huge array of different sports that are available to them.
Americans expect to win everything, which is unrealistic, and when they don't, it's nothing to do with "under-achieving", it's just the normal world order of things coming into play.
