Ok we all know he can run 9:58 and 19:19 what if he kept going for a full lap or how about two or maybe even four? Seems he'd do OK?

400 - around 42 seconds. He would own the Americans.
He would run out of gas in the 800 and above.
really! you don't think he could run another lap pretty fast? I'm not so sure.
Right now I would say:
44 low for 400.
2:00 for 800
4:30 for 1500
he looked pretty gassed after that 200
Don't count him out..He looked gassed after 200m because that's the competition distance he trained for. He's surprised everyone so far. Maybe he can put to challenge the fast and slow twitch muscle theories and excel at longer distances. But given his muscle mass and weight is there a physical handicap for say the 10k?. There's also the different mental makeup of a sprinter and a middle distance runner. The sprinter is more "lets get this over quickly" and the middle distance more into patience, strategy, tactics, pain tolerance and final kick strength.
only 2 flat for 800? Caster vs Bolt: the boys return!
I love questions like this.
Or how about, at what distance would Bekele and Bolt tie?

800
400 - 45 flat
800 - 2:10
1500 - 4:45
I think Bolt is doped to the gills, but you guys aren't giving him enough credit. He could go 1:48 for the 800 right now, 1:44 with some training.
better one is: at what distance would Bolt and Geb tie? Meaning Geb now, the guy who sets marathon WR's but gets out-kicked in 10k races.
I would say the answer is 600.
no way in hell Geb could stay with Bolt for 600 and agree not giving Bolt enough credit he would do VERY well at 800 right now
It really is simple math. When we analyze the times turned in so far we see that he maintains roughly the same pace so we just have to project that out to the increased distances:
400 - 38:41
800 - 1:17.25
1500 - 2:24
5000 - 8 minutes
10000 - 16 minutes
i don't see bolt running any faster than 1:50
let's look at matt scherer from oregon as an example.
scherer was a 200m/400m in college, where he ran 20.xx/45.xx. after college, he began to train more like an 800m runner, and since then (it's been what- 2 years?) he has got his 800m time down to 1:46.53. keep in mind, however, that scherer had already been doing specific training for 400m, and he has only achieved his current 1:46.5 pr after a couple years of training for the 800m.
one thing against bolt is that he doesnt train for the 400m, he trains for 200m and 100m, so i think it would take longer for his body to adapt to training for the 800m. that said, if the question of what he could run for 800m TODAY is considered with all this in mind, i'd say
today: 2:00
and if he were train for the 800m, then a few years from now i'd say
3 years: 1:45
that's still highly speculative, because maybe scherer has a naturally greater aerobic capacity than bolt. i leave this by saying i will never spend so much speculative time on such a ridiculous question that will never be tested.
Does Sherer have a mullet?
I don't know. Bolt seems to get most of his advantage in his start. Notice in the 100 that Gay was able to maintain distance as they closed. Bolt was not pulling away, he had achieved the entire margin in the first 80, and had hit his max acceleration sometime before the tape. Very similar in the 200- Bolt has gotten his start perfected- he doesn't really build significantly on his margin ahead of the field after the turn. Stretching it out over another 200, it seems he would have no further opportunity to build an advantage. However, it would be close to MJ's record- low 43's.
my bet is Bolt would erase the 400 record right now OK next week after resting from a busy week.
it would be interesting to tell bolt to run a 400- two 200's back to back, the first one in 22, and then tell him to run the second 200 as fast as he can. when he runs through the tape in his victory 200m race, he's still moving pretty fast and that's him easing up. it would definitely be interesting to see him take a shot at MJ's 400m record. look at allyson felix. she's run 10.93, 21.81, and 49.7.

No way he could do 1:48 right now & if he could do, with training he would go much better than 1:44. Do thing those guys train 100 miles per week to improve by 4 seconds?
