@USAF_Run.....you're a 2nd LT (I'm assuming straight out of the academy?) what is your AFSC?
What many people don't realize is that many of these push ups, sit ups, and pull ups are NOT done correctly. People don't break 90 degrees when they do the push ups, don't lock out arms and kick like little girls and do that stupid @ss chin lift to get over the bar when doing pull ups.
When I went to spec ops the first day they had a pass/fail test. The guys who had been doing the cheater style push ups etc (yall know what I'm talkin about) failed on the very first day b/c they couldn't do the required amount of reps CORRECTLY. They were too tired after a timed swim to use correct form so each rep that was done was not counted and there were no 2nd tries. It really doesn't matter how many you do if you're not doing the reps correctly. Run time is a little different, there's no way to cheat.
Perhaps not surprisingly, while going through indoc, the big meat heads that were SOLID muscle gave up like big puss*es when we did team runs and rucks. The cadre would run us until a few guys dropped off the back, then drop everyone in the mud, rocks, or a creek (somewhere not comfortable) and make us stay in push up position until each guy caught up, then we would bust out a set of pushups and usually some flutter kicks while in the mud/dirt/rocks or whatever too. They would continue this for hours (seriously) until a certain # of guys quit, then they would stop the madness.
Of all the guys that made it through indoc in my unit, the VAST majority were either wrestlers or runners in high school and college. Mentally tough guys that could put up with a LOT of sh*t. The football looking guys typically did not make it and the ones that did had impressive distance running ability for their size. One guy in my unit was 6'8" @ around 275 pounds and was the only guy who could out ruck me with 85+ pounds on our back.
Moral of the story, distance runners and wrestlers are tough. At least the ones I was around were and we were the cream of the crop.
