Now slow down son. A kick at 14:00 pace is different than a kick at 13:10 pace.
He won't be near enough to the leaders to do any damage with his kick. "Big fish, small pond (NCAA)."
Rupp has a ways to go before he medals. He has a bad hip and hasn't raced in over a month.
Top 10 will be a stretch.

I disagree, I think he should be in the top 5. He really had no competition in the states, so he basically ran slow and easy. In the Worlds his true running will show.
no.

He was 11th at 2007 Worlds and 13th at the 2008 Olympics! Top 10 is very attainable for him, especially considering the great year he's had.
Top 3 is a stretch, 4-6 would be a great showing, 7-10 is where I think he should be.
He should "at least" medal? No.
Do you have even the first clue who he's racing against? (Hint: see the letsrun preview. I know you can find it.)
If the race is slow, he *may* be a *contender* for a medal. Even then, I'd be surprised.
depends on uncle al's special sauce, i guess.
I would like to see him run at the top as long as he can. Maybe he can steal medal with a big PR at 13:low. Otherwise his kick is probably ordinary at this level of comp. Bekeles last mile off a slow pace would be faster than Rupp could run one mile.
Good luck to the US mens 5K team, I beleive its the strongest the US has had in many years.

If Rupp runs in the 13's it won't even be close.
Considering Teg has run 13low Rupp has a shot at going sub 13. He will need it to medal. If he doesn't run right around there, he won't have a hope.
FWIW, I'm pretty sure Rupp is running the 10k at worlds.

Lagat has a shot at a medal for the 5. Rupp is just running the 10 and given the hip injury, I really don't see him in the mix at all. Until he can throw down 60-62 sec surges like the rest of the Africans, he will finish way back. Prediction: 15th place.
Rupp will run 27:18
2003 World Champs last 5km of the 10,000m = 12:57.24
1000m 2:52.01
2000m 5:36.76
3000m 8:24.72
4000m 11:10.77
5000m 13:52.33
6000m 16:26.85
7000m 19:05.14
8000m 21:42.58
9000m 24:20.56
10000m 26:49.57
If this is anything to go by Rupp won't medal!

True enough. He'll win by the biggest margin in history and set a world record that will never be broken (if he runs in the 13's).
:)
Probably pretty close to that time. He may get as high as top six, or maybe top eight. He should be fairly well rested since he hasn't raced since June.
I was thinking the same thing. That was Bekele at 12:57 and I believe Geb followed him closely running the second 5k in 12:58. Rupp's "famous kick" is going to have to get more famous in order to match the top guys in the world.
Serious question: Will the WC be heat/final, or just final? (Maybe I should know, but I don't...)
Thank you, I'm glad at least a couple people got it.
