Chad Ware, former Butler University walk on, was second to Goucher in a new p.r time of 68.25. He ran a p.r of 2.20.57 on the 17th May this year for the marathon. Is that a good indicater of the type of form Goucher is in?

we shall see august 23rd.
she is very obviously in that kind of shape. however, specifics on race day play such a huge role in the marathon that you can't predict outcomes very well.
You gotta think Ware was in better shape than a 1:08 when he ran that 2:20.
That being said I think Goucher could have run faster and was certainly holding back in the beginning.
So I don\'t know I\'d say if not 2:20 shape low 2:20s like 2:21-2
Ware's time was a p.r for him and he ran his marathon p.r in May so i'd say he was in similar form.
Anyone if Berlin will be a fast course?
What are you people smoking? 2:20 is way better than 1:08.
All this tells us is what I believed all along: the half marathon is a terrible predictor of what you can run in the marathon. I don't know why people keep trying to project from one to the other.

Agreed. Sometimes it takes several months to recover from a hard marathon. He could of just been having an off day. And why would he care how he raced at a half marathon that doesn't offer prize money.
Just a thought here wrote:

If you run a half marathon 3 weeks before a marathon, it will be a great predictor unless you are undertrained for the marathon distance.
On the other hand, trying to correlate a May marathon time with an August half marathon time is kinda silly.

Berlin is Flat and Fast. Will be a 10k loop with an extra 2k loop on the last lap. It is partly on the course of the Berlin Marathon, but has been made a loop-course for ease of organisation and the possibility to see the field more often from the same spot.
http://www.berlin2009.org/275-1-marathon--race-walk.htmlThere are people who run good half marathons, who never do well at a marathon. A friend of mine who was very fast at 10k and halfs, always bonked by 20 miles of a marathon.
I am impressed with how well Kara ran in this half.
I thought the old rule was double you're half time and add 5 minutes and get your marathon time?
I think she can run 2:21.
2 things: i ran 126 miles the week of this race (finishing the day before), and my endurance has always been better than my speed (14:45 is my best 5k). therefore, for me, this was a pretty good race and i feel i am in better than 2:20 shape if i were to taper for a marathon run in ideal conditions (like those in green bay where i ran 2:20). take that for what it is worth with regards to what kind of shape kara is in for worlds, im just letting you know what went into it on my end. i am thankful for the 1:08:24 PR and my hat goes off to Kara for kicking my butt at the end.
The rule is to use "your" where you put "you're."

More important than what time she can run is what place she will get in a championship race. I think Kara will get 2nd at worlds, getting outkicked again, as at Boston. While she might be able to run 2:20, she won't in that race no matter how fast the course.
Chad, if that's actually you thanks for posting. Good run.

I hope that you are right, but that would be a huge upset as the 2 best marathoners in the world are both running the WC. Mitetenko in front of the German crowd and Radcliffe are certainly ahead of Kara.
Chad, thanks for coming on and posting.
Why did you run a 126 mile run the week of a race you were in p.r shape for?
Is that typical for you or are you going to do another marathon soon.
Also I am surprised to hear you ran 2.20 and we haven't heard much about you. Can you give us some history on yourself? Also who coaches you or are you self coached?
Only thing i've seen is silver at conferance 10km for Chad. But that was horizon league and that conferance is not fast.
I want to know more?
