I mentioned Boone earlier - his folks, too, were Quakers from Devonshire - but while his spoken English was legit, his written word was atrocious and inventive, according to his biographers; it's hard to imagine an English accent from this colonial-born generation. Being reasonably close to Charlottesville, VA, I've had numerous occasions to hear the Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry impersonators. Never have I heard the actors use an accent. It was America - an emerging nation and culture.
