Why was the original thread deleted? I'm as disappointed as the next guy, but deleting the thread doesn't make it not so.
What did the mods hope to accomplish by doing that???

Season is done. Possibly even career...
Word on the street is that Webb will hold a press conference later today to announce his retirement. He plans to open a running store in Eugene with a museum/shrine dedicated to the Year 2007, when Webb reigned supreme.
nah word on the street is that he is hooking up with victor conte to develop 3:43 mile formula. It should be available by August.

Recently updated, plans are being redrawn for the shrine because someone tipped webb off that he actually was only reigned supreme for july of 2007, the rest of the year not so much.

You'd probably want to talk to Patrick Arnold about that, not Conte. Unless the 3:43 mile formula involves lots of self-promotion in the media.
Does this mean Heath (or Heath and Martinez since they had to go down to the thousandth for a non-lane final) gets the spot?
He's got anal cancer.
you guys are freaking MEAN!
He's not done.. but yes this is disappointing.
The real question is how does withdrawing from the finals make Webb feel? Is he pissed off/disappointed? Or is he relieved? Only he knows for sure, but at this point, I wonder...
It really is time for Webb to find a new coach. It will be very interesting to see what, if any, changes he makes after this season.
He is devastated.. What do you think?? Why the Hell would he be relieved???? Do you know how much passion he has for what he does? How he's been training for this moment to come back to Berlin to show he IS a great miler.. Can everyone just STOP BEING SO DAMN mean... and quit saying "He needs a new coach, etc.."
Show him respect. He's just a runner trying to make it. He's a human not a machine.
Wow. That's a HUGE disappointment. Any word on what the injury is?
Does this mean Lamong is our best miler now?
This is an incredibly perfect oppurtunity for him to FINALLY regroup and begin training for the 5,000m and maybe even 10,000m. For god's sake we've seen what he can do without even training for it.
He needs to get strong, tear up cross, and go for the 5,000m record next summer.
And yes, he needs a new coach.
Seriously...
We've seen him run some awesome mile times too. Unfortunately, it's impossible for us to know what will work for him.
opens the door for will leer. who knows which manzano and lukezic will show up. lomong is a given.
webb's sudden absence doesnt 'open the door' for anyone. webbs performance over the past couple years has left that door open.
any dummy, including webb, knows that he needs a new coach. but if there was illegal substance abuse catalyzing webbs past success and the lack of it is causing webbs current failure, who else is the most likely to know? more to the point, who might have webb's career in a blackmail chokehold?
NEW COACH
To steal a couple lines from Caddyshack:
Alan Webb:
"You know, you should run with Dr. Beeper and myself. I mean, he's been the champion for three years running and I'm no flame-out myself..."
Manzano / Fernandez / Lomong / top 20 American 1500m runners: "Don't sell yourself short Alan -- you're a tremendous flame-out!"
Career is over, at least at 1500m. I think he could compete at 5K. I don't think he has the physiology or the mental toughness for 10K anymore. (Like I said, *anymore*... the guy used to be a rock, now his gumption is on empty.)
Jenny B. stole Webb's gumption!
