Does anyone know the US best for someone so young? Is this some sort of age group record?
Well done Evan.
German's 13:25 at age 18 is pretty good as well.
Where can I find age group records?

That was a jaw dropper. Just amazing for all three. I cant believe Jagar made that team that was amazing, plus he took the lead. What cohones!
In 1966, at age twenty, Gerry Lindgren ran 12:53 for three miles, I believe on a cinder track.
13:22 at 20 is "amazing."13:25 at 18 is "pretty good."Apparently, improving more than 1.5 sec per year transforms "pretty good" to "amazing."What is this, the Carol Lewis School of Track Analysis? Both are "amazing" (for Americans). So, why take away from Fernandez?

Don't be so excessively defensive and sensitive. Of course people think Fernandez is amazing. Rojo was just emphasizing how great Jager ran and giving him some much deserved props. Young man, you need to lighten up.
Salazar - he ran 13:22 his sophomore year.
Jager had an incredible race! It has been fantastic to see his progression over the last couple of years! I remember watching him fearfully tie-up in the last lap during the NON HS 2 mile as Cento and Forys pulled away. Well, those days are way, way behind him now, as he is stronger, faster and infinitely more well equipped to deal with whatever is thrown at him! His move to Eugene has been so amazingly positive and productive! (for him….).
Obviously, I’m not sure every athlete would benefit from this type of bold “lifestyle” move - it has its own risks! But what doesn’t? I think Fernandez did what was anticipated. Everybody knew he was more than capable of running faster than 13:30. He ran another brilliant race and at only 18, has achieved what so few could only even dream of! It was interesting to see Fam’s over aggressive response when Fernandez pulled up alongside him - he then pejoratively paid for it in the last lap! Running a more calculated, controlled and measured race, gave Fernandez the American Jr.5k Record that he deserves.
Mottram was 13.26.20 at 20.

so a sub 13 should be a lock for EJ in a few years!
Closing in 54.88!
Does he have to chase the A standard? Get him in the right race and we might see a 20 year old at 13:15.

mottram is not from USA if we did international, lots have gone 13:22 or better by age 20, eliud kipchoge 12:46 at 18, sammy wanjiru 26:41 for 10k at age 18 etc.
I think we should be careful counting the africans. Their official ages are doubtful...
I felt the brothers were biased towards Jager in the race commentating. They didn't give much props to the Fernandez. BTW, I think German ran such a mature, patient race. Any other kid would have blown his load in the early going to keep up. They ran through two miles in 8:35 with German a few seconds back.
I would have panicked if I came through two miles in just a few seconds slower than my PR! Instead, German kept a cool head and went to work. With that said though, he was definitely hurting by the look on his face. This race was pure guts for the kid - Pre would have been proud.
Young man, you need to lighten up.[/quote]
“Lighten up” is passive aggressive and not light.
“Young man” is condescending.
You are also syncopating Rojo.
You don’t realize what you sound like.
Calling him Carol Lewis was funny.

Come on....Fernandez's 834 2mile pr is irrelevant. he went 7:47 indoors in a winning effort. 834 is not even worth mentioning in an analysis of his race. GF is a much different animal than last year, and that's why he didn't panick, NOTHING to do with keeping a cool head.
If GF wen out in 835 and was an 834 athlete still, you better believe he would have panicked, and then dropped out 5 meters later.
GF ran awesome, but you're making it out like he did the impossible.
Would have liked to have seen Derrick in that race. Might he have let loose on Fernandez again? He left no doubt last time.
Also, wouldn't Jager be a true sophmore were he still in school? From what I could gather he left Wisco to go with Shu, not because he was convinced he was above NCAA competition. He was making a move that he felt was in his best interest long term. The fact that he, his coach, and his training group have made "long term" this year is only a validation of his talent and his coach's direction.
not yet 20, more than 18....both 19 by my math.
These are the birthdates according to the IAAF.
Jager Evan 08/03/1989 he'll be 20 in August
German Fernandez 02/11/1990 he'll be 20 in February
are the IAAF dates incorrect?
They do the dates and months backward in the international system. That is actually, march and november.

lol at this honest mistake. Usually you can tell because the day is over a 12 so it's obvious, but they look correct in both ways so that's funny for me.
Was that an American/World record (Lindgren)? Pre had to be close in '71 he would have been 20. By 21 he had run low 13:20s and time trialed a 8:19 by himself.
