I volunteer to console Flanagan.
...Leaving Cook was a huge mistake
Not really...their last lap was only a 67. Not all that quick. Shalane didn't really have that much the last 100, so it just made Amy look like she was going quicker than she really was.
what the hell, did she win? I left for a while because I figured Flanagan was going to win by a minute

It's way too early to make that claim.

I agree Hopefully she will go 30:12 at worlds. Cook was an arrogant asshole, it was the right think.
I clicked on the feed about half way through the race and both Shalane and Amy looked great. Especially Shalane - she almost looked like a different runner since last year. At least until about 4 laps to go, then her stride started looking strained and less quick, like last year. If she can hold on to what she had for the first 5 miles, she will be very tough at worlds.
Amy really looked great the whole way and much more fit than last year.
Best of luck in Berlin to both of them!!!
It's possible that Shalane was training through this race and Amy was tapered?
My "Inside Sources" say this is definitive.

I sincerely hope that Shalane is training through big time. I did read/hear somewhere that she was doing a five week stint at altitude and only came back down on Monday. That would sort of lend support to the idea that she wasn't well rested.
The only danger of this is that it risks killing her confidence, which appears evident based on her tears afterwards. So at some point before Worlds she might need to sacrifice a bit of training to get in a nice, fast 1500 or 5000 to be in a good mindset heading into the big meet.
Shalane needs to eat.

Say what you want (thing or think) but she hasn't won a race since she left Cook. Well her first race after she left him was lost in awisker and an AR, but that was quite soon after the break up.
But a talented lady and she'll be fine. Though I worry some about injuries with the higher mileage program she has moved into. Obviously she responded very well to Cook's program and she is now in a different one.
But Amy was exciting. When she went wide to let Shalane pass her at the end I thought it was over and she came back very strong. She also had a chance to cut Shalane off when passing a lapped runner but instead wen wide to give her room. Nice lady!
Hand it to Alberto. It looks like he has taken a page from Malmo's book: 'if you want to run fast you have to train fast." Amy has been training on short races and speed and final kick, etc. IT SHOWED. She may have tapered, but she dropped 20+ seconds from her PB. She can get into a quick cycle still and drop another 10 seconds. I say Amy gets 7th at worlds and Shalane, if she can pull it together and taper, gets 4th.
Yea, Begley has been running quite a bit of 1500s..
I don't know about places at worlds, but I am concerned about what happen to Shalane's kick. We haven't seen it yet this year...

Everyone in the world needs to eat.
I liked how Rojo or whoever kept saying Shalane's gonna win this one, lets see who else makes it to the team.
Yeah, congrats to that ball=ess sit on Shalane kick and win coward, she's a total pussy.
...Er, wait, uhm, this "logic" doesn't work both ways...
Smart racing.
You go Girl.
Salazar Rocks.
Time to gloat: I picked Begley in the USATF contest. So far I have five wins and a second.
