Methinks malmo is the OP aswell. It just seems too much of a coincidence...maybe I'm too skeptical. Cool thread.
WTF?

This one actually surprises me. Pre is still the fastest home-grown miler from Oregon? I know Berryhill had to have been close. I think I remember him running 3:55 indoors.
Malmo, don't forget to add Rupp to this list.
nope my mama didn't name me malmo, never met the man and probably sadly never will. OP is just ME a fan of running.
Wow. Most perfect reply ever. Hahaha Malmo rocks!
Florida - Quentin Cassidy 3:52
In all seriousness though Mark Carroll ran 3:57.58 indoors back in 1998. Not sure if any of the Florida Track club guys ran any faster back in the 70's.
yeah I was only messing... I thought the made-up quote at the end of my post made that kinda obvious.
I have a correction -
Connecticut - Andrew Bumbalough - 3:58.46 - 2/2/08

not a worry in the world Irishboy, here's a pint of Guinness to you! and to everyone who enjoys a good run and a well earned beer! At times there are a bunch of idiots on here, its nice to, for the time being have a good conversation going. Cheers!
ok any updates to 'the list' with this new info, Retired Steepler or others?
Ok cool. You seem like a really nice guy. Sorry about the accusation. Same to you malmo.
Don't know if these are state records, but they are sub-4's taken from this list:
https://www.trackandfieldnews.com/archive/U.S.Sub-4s.pdf
Kentucky: 3:58.64 - Rob Myers
Louisiana: 3:58.6 - Mark Schilling (does the 6 in parenthesis mean he came in 6th in the race? if so, obviously he would not hold the state record)
North Carolina: 3:58.4 - Tony Waldrop
North Dakota: 3:59.7 - Mike Slack
Washington: 3:56.00i Steve Sherer
Here's another good list:
http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~rsparks/sub4-ven.htm
These may be records:
Louisiana: 3:57.1 Dave Wottle
Alabama: 3:50.70 Nouredine Morceli
Minnesota: 3:55.52 Ray Flynn
Oklahoma: 3:57.0 Wilson Waigwa
Missouri: 3:56.7 Dyrol Burleson
Arizona: 3:56.4 Paul Cummings
nice guy?..laugh! I have my moments and have been called far worse. no worries. Remember, Life isn't fair and the 3rd lap is when you can't afford to day dream.
malmo...great post. Question is this a list of sub for "In" the state or of guys "from" the state. If it's sub 4 "from" the state than Illinois is missing some guys. Jager and Ulrey are the most recent...
Does anyone have proof/link about the GA sub 4 mile?? Being from Georgia, I have always heard (from multiple creditable coaches/athletes) that no one has run under 4 in the state of Georgia. Just curious.

Looks like it was done at Olympic Stadium, Georgia Tech, AND indoors.

I am not 100% sure if this is the fastest ever in Missouri but:
Manzano, Leo Nike 3:55.29
No one has ever run sub 4 in Colorado. Here is the best:
1 Ted Castaneda Colorado TC CU Relays 4:04.86 04/10/76 1st
However, Manzano did run 3:41.80 (for 1500, obviously) at the Big XII's in Boulder in 2008.
