According to the announcer there are 3.5 men in the lead pack. That half-man is really hanging in there...
Lead pack of 3 1/2 men... hilarious.
I realize that McCourt and his friends may have decided that thanking sponsors--and thus encouraging future sponsors--is most of what this first year's coverage needs to be about. Do you agree with this strategy?
I don't. I think that you need to find creative ways of making the implicit and real drama of the elite race translate. People watch basketball and football because the love the drama of the contest between skilled, larger-than-life athletes.
So do that with running. Give several of the elites head-cams. Get some camera guys who know how to do closeups. Give us a few portraits of the elites back home, or in training in the US.
Respect running--the elite athletes--as much as basketball and football respect, indeed idolize and fetishize, THOSE athletes. Don't devote three minutes of airtime to giving me a history of Honda cars in the US! And I've owned 7 Hondas and an Accura! But that's not what I want to see. Call me negative. I believe I'm offering constructive criticism.
Wesley Korir is on 2:07:30 pace and he's in the lead. Two kenyans and one ethiopian. Jefar, Korir,
