I realize that generally, I don't.
I realize that generally, I don't.
Yes.
Yes, I follow men's and women's running. I find women's running very interesting as well, especially since the U.S. has a lot of top contenders up there in Kara Goucher, Shalane, Flanagan, Jenny Barringer, Shannon Rowbury, Anna Willard, and so on.
I don't follow NTN/NXN as much nowadays, but when I do/did I much preferred following the girls teams because I found it far more interesting... it was always a great battle between the New York teams plus throw in a California team, etc. there... and it was very interesting to speculate, look at their times, etc.
I am also excited for women's NCAA running this fall, there should be some great battles going on... especially in the Pac-10s with Lawrence, Schaaf, Babcock, Follett, Chetelat, Dunne, Hasay, Kosinski, Blood and so on. I would love to see a race in the 3k among all of them!
I care about it more than I care about men's running. The cast of characters is more interesting, intelligent, poised, classy, etc.
i care about women's running, more so then men's, and way more so than lame men's sports like lacrosse
Yep, I agree with the previous two posters. I have always been proud of track and field/running, etc. for the fact that women do credit/attention in the sport (though overall the sport in general does not receive mainstream credit...) and people know who many of the top runners are (for example, take a look at Jordan Hasay... most well known high school runner for the last few years). It's great to see more and more women competing. I know of many girls who check out sites like Letsrun, Flotrack etc. and they really like to see/hear about top runners who are role models to them.
do get credit/attention*
Being a girl, I care quite a bit about women's running... and I follow it a lot. I do follow men's running somewhat too.
I always look forward to seeing coverage of top female runners on sites like these because many of them are working just as hard.
A good percentage of women runners are nuts. I care about them, but a good percentage of them are nuts.
Between their eating disorders, their crying jags, their egocentricity, their jealousies, their injuries, and their sensitivities, they will drive a coach out of his low estrogen mind.
Of course, there are exceptions to the general trend of women runners being nuts. And these are the women runners who are psychos.
No.
honestly, i dont follow womens running at all. The only womens races i watch are the ones my girl teammates run. even then, it usually meh...
To the poster who said women runners are more " classy, poised, intelligent..." That is a statement that has no quantitative value, and can't be proven false or true, and is ridiculous.
Women and distance running is pretty bland. So far back from the capability of their opposite gender, its almost laughable. I appreciate effort, and determination, but it is in fact much less entertaining than mens racing.
15:45 for 5k, and world class? Come on.
Seeing GF, Derrick, teg run in 13:30 and under, really exciting.
Yes when they aren't manly.
That's just your perspective.
Plus, you cannot compare times between them in ways people on here sometimes do because the "line" is not a linear one... it is an exponential one.
Nope. Honestly, there is too great of a correlation discrepancy. The effort may be there but the 10th best female in the country, in most events, is just a joke compared to the 10th male. Yes, a very few of the very elite women are worth watching, but the credit that the "also-rans" receive really waters down the races for me. And yes, I am one of the "also-rans" and may be a bit jealous. That's my two cents.
radcliffe, dibaba, defar, felix, flanagan, goucher, barringer...
right now those are the only chicks off the top of my head that I would pay to watch run.
yeah, but also wrote:

+1

Exponential with regards to what variable? What line, progression? Atleast provide an argument providing something to debate amongst empirically..Like VO2, or biological traits, chemical interactions amongst energy driven systems.
I merely suggested mens racing is more entertaining, and it is, if you base the 'letsrun.com' mantra off of 'the faster the better'.
Cellular capability, pertaining to a ability to perform actions, as it applies to human capital- or an "athletic GDP", is, insofar superior to female distance runners, rendered upon suggested performances.
i will go a step further and say that i dont care about ANY womens sports at all.
Tell us, do you like gladiator movies?
