WTRK: Buckeyes Look to Impress at Big Ten Championships
13 points after 2 days and very few in the finals of anything. How, exactly, are they looking to impress...show up?

This topic has been beaten to death multiple times. Ohio State women are very lackluster, where they should be one of the top 20 teams in the country each year. Almost every kid from Ohio will attend Buckeyeland if asked and the state of Ohio is a great HS track state. But as long as athletic departments fill their coaching positions via quota's, either gender or race, we will end up with these situations. Where else except in America could a person get fired at Michigan State, fired at UNLV, become an Olympic coach, and then head coach at Ohio State. America......its a great place to live. When the head coaches contract runs out next year, then the AD will find someone good.
I understand that this is a much discussed subject. My point is...don't advertise on your website that things are about to go on at the conference meet when you know that they are not! If you suck, hide until you're fired if you aren't going to get it done!

Their women distance runners are much improved...props to the new guy whoever he is.

I wouldn't be too quick to congratulate Mr. Gary. If you look at the results the reason his team didn't win is the athletes he coaches. The distance runners all underperformed across the board. None of them even came close to their seed time performances, and most didn't make it to the finals or score. Jeff See doesn't even get a bye...he should've learned from last year about letting these races come down to a kick. Maybe I'm a bit harsh, but Gary isn't getting the job done.

The Buckeyes did get Shulze. Oops, she is on the basketball team!!
Maybe you should read more carefully. Given the poor situation at OSU, these kids would not give them a look. If things were different, if the team was top 20 or so, I believe each of those kids would have given at least a look. Even with the modest improvement this year, some of the top girls looked at OSU and made visits. Sure they ended up going other places, but at least they looked. If OSU was having a strong showing each year some of those people that you named would have attended Buckeyeland.
Having run high school track in Ohio along side 4 teammates who were individual division I state champions (3 of became All-Americans in college), I can say that not one of us got a phone call from Ohio State. I personally would have loved to be a Buckeye.
4 of your teammates were OHSAA DI State Champions? 3 of those 4 became All-Americans (NCAA DI)? What school is this?
gotta be Beaumont HS
How on earth can people still be critizing Gary. he has built an actual team in cross country and has done the same in track. Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and (Penn State is getting there)are the 5 schools doing anything in the conference. He has recruited instate more than any coach in the country at a big school and put his ego aside when it comes to scholarship amounts in the distance area to go where the points can be found. Jeff see has been training for 3 or 4 weeks I heard and got beat by two great milers that have both run 3:37! The steeple is the only place where OSU bombed out and Corey Leslie is a true freshman that has run 8:55! Little Olinger PR's this spring by over 20 seconds to break 9 and is a 2nd year.
Coach Dennis must hate Gary and how it looks though
It is kind of sad. I was at the meet this weekend watching Bizzari and Franek in the 5000 and we were all talking about how good OSU could be if we just kept our own runners in state.
Now I think Ridder is going to Penn State too.
Way to go Bucks.
Ok, this must be a person on a team. OSU hardly did anything on the distance side!!!!!!!! Dan White SHOULD have made the finals and didn't! The Steeplechase BOMBED! 10k-5k not good at all, even when you get most of the state champs in ohio. Roys, and Myer are going there next year. I WILL NEVER SEE A IMPROVEMENT WITH THEM!!!!!
OSU scored about 16 points in the distance starting with the 800 and up. Thats horrible. His distance program is the worst part of OSU program.
Ridder visited Ohio State and it came down to them and Penn State. All you can do is get the kids on campus sell them on the program and then offer them a scholarship. After that if they go somewhere else that is just a part of recruiting. They are recruiting Ohio kids, but just because they recruit them does not mean everyone is going to come.
They have improved this year. Will make a big jump next year, and then they will be able to get some of those top girls.
They did sign the Florida State record holder in the 800 for next year.
Didn't cory leslie sign with Florida state then go to Ohio state???? I heard this and could not believe it because cmon its FLORIDA STATE!!!!
What I want to know is what is going on with Chad Balyo? He started indoor on a strong note and has just gotten progressively worse this year.
Balyo ran 4:02 and 8:06 indoors. He sprained his ankle horribly 3 days before Big 10's and then ended up falling over a tripped runner about 3 laps into race saturday.
And all this hype about Penn State? The same lady coaches San Borchers who is one of the most talented middle distance guys in the country and his season is over havign not made the Regionals and not even made the finals of the Big 10 meet.
