Closed the 10k in right around 54 seconds. Not too quick of an overall time, but impressive finish!

29 flat? Jeez, I can run 25 seconds faster than THAT, by myself, on the roads, in BANGKOK! (but not in trainers)
C'mon Ducks, quit waddling!
Jason
It sucks he had to run a pussy ass race like that. Coach should just let him train through those stupid meets. Why does he have to show up and run a 29:00? he's probably not fresh and it looks shitty while giving others confidence at racing him.

Jason, you would have got smoked in the last 1k. Next time run your 10k on a known certified course. Nobody is buying that bullshit race. You ran 14:1x on the track and expect everyone to believe that you can run mid 28 mid on the road as a old f***? Yeah, right,
We're going to have to take you down the station, son.
believe it or not, but even going through a 29:10 race and finishing it out on the last couple laps (in the heat) has benefit to rupp. especially considering that he ran a 3:46 (with a kick) a couple hours earlier, and then had to be able to fly in the 1500 the following day on legs that put in 29 laps the day before. there are a lot of benefits to doing what he did, including practicing for rounds of championship meets and just remembering what it feels like to go lap after lap since he recently raced 800's and miles.
the other thing is, unlike a lot of guys who will back off for conference a bit rupp never does so 29:00 on a regular 90 mile week with workouts is not as easy as tapered 29:00 which would literally be a jog for him instead of a tempo.
had he needed to come back in the 5K, well that would have been overkill so lucky they didn't need him to get those points.
regionals will likely feel like a 10 lap moderate workout for him followed by a hard last 1K (or less).
A 54 second 400 even in a 29:00 10k has got be one of the best 10k finishes by an American ever. What are some other examples? Did Rupp just develop these wheels this year?
I saw Joe Falcon run 54.0 at the end of a 30:00 10k at NCAA's and I know how fast that looked.
Thinking back at top 10k guys over the years I don't know of any (Ritz, Abdi, Meb, Dan Browne, Todd Williams, Bickford, Ramirez, Plasenia, Porter, Cullpepper,,who else?)
I don't recall that any of those guys finishing a 10k in 29:00 or better with a 54.
Jason, pray tell how fast you would have run that 10K after running a 1500 prelim in 3:46 an hour earlier. Oh yes, and you would have to keep in mind that when you wake up the next morning, you will have to run another 1500 (final), kicking in at 52.2 to place. Oh yes, and if your team (you do know about teams, don't you) needed you, you would be asked to run another 5K race 2 hours after the 1500 final. Are you getting it yet, Jason? He ran 29 because that was just the start of his workday. By the way, when did you last run a final lap in 54 in the 10K?
Why's he running a 10km, 5km and 1500 in one day! That's crazy!

In all seriousness, this is a very good indication of Rupp's ability to compete on international scene. Back in Athens 2004, Bekele closed his 10k in 53.02 (IIRC) to win against a stacked field (yes it was a faster pace, but you get the idea). Rupp's ability to run 54 (letting up the last 10 m) after running 6 miles (regardless of the pace) gets me excited to watch him at the world champs.

Paul Cummings ran 56 the last lap of a 27:59 in the '84 trials.
http://www.juanjosemartinez.com.mx/photos1.htmlCan't you read anymore, Mayeroff...the question posed clearly described a two day meet. Now answer the question since you are such a blowhard.
Bekele ran 53.02 to hit 27:05.10. The performances aren't even close, sorry!
He could have closed faster. Biwott was charging hard with 500 to go, Rupp just waited until 200 to sprint. He's in very good shape right now. 29:00 10k is basically an upper threshold run for him.
Remember, he IS member of the Ducks, and as insignificant as it may seem, helping his team win a conference, region and national title is something special.
