you are WAY, way off . . . 4:20 without breaking a sweat.
Who cares?
He weighs 190 pounds. No way he breaks 5 on sprinter training.
If he were to run 100mpw, he may get down to 4'20.
YOU do. Why else did you click on this thread, dummy?

I say, yeah < 4:30 easy.
He couldn't break 3:45 in the 1200.
Letsrun Logic: Quite clearly a 65 second 400 would be just jogging for him, so 4:20-4:30 should be no problem. He could probably stop and eat a few chicken nuggets along the way and still break 5 minutes.
he could run as fast as most decathletes
he would have no problem running 65-85 lap but he would have a problem running an 1600 no matter how fast so no sub 5
Of course he could. We're not talking about some schumck in High School in the mid west, you're talking about an all time elite sprinter trying for a very pedestrian mark of 5 min in the mile. Genetics alone are enough in his case.
Now if you start talking about sub 30 in a 10k, well then maybe you have a point.
I clicked on the thread to explain that it is inconsequential whether or not Bolt can break 5 minutes in the mile.
Any no if Michael Phelps can high jump 6 feet?
Come on, scrawny 14 year olds routinely break 5 off of 20 miles a week. No way he doesn't break 5.

this is one of the dumbest questions i've seen around here. He could had run a 5 minute mile right after his accident, all beat up and hurting.
No doubt. No doubt in my mind.
There are a few 200/400 guys on our team that are 20 mid/45 high guys. I asked one of them about this and he said there is no way he could in sprinting shape. So I seriously doubt Usain could being a 100/200 guy. Sprinters consider 15 minutes of running a long run.
OHHHHH they guys on YOUR team don't think they could, then Usain would definitely not be able to. I had no idea your teammates couldn't even do that!?!?! WOW
8th grade boys break 5, and people question whether Usain could? really? I know this guys teammates couldn't so Usain wouldn't FOR SURE......
drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
As has been discussed previously on this board, Usain Bolt's sprinting speed does not translate into a 1:45 800 meter. He could not "jog a 50" then come back in a 55. However, running 5 minutes for the mile is a different story. No professional track athlete (excluding throwers) would have a problem with this.

Yeah but your leaving out the part where the sprinter that told me that is faster than Bolt in the 400.
Note, Bolt isn't JUST a 100/200 guy, he ran a 45. in the 400 when he was 16... Run 30 seconds slower per lap than your best 400 and tell me if you can keep that up for 4 laps....

I hope you are kidding, that is not how it works. Even alot of the top decathletes struggle breaking 5 in the mile. By your logic Bolt could run sub 4 because its an entire 15 seconds per lap slower than his 400 pr.
