"I don't know whether to be more surprised at his behavior or that Rojo didn't coach that 'tude out of him. When all is said and done, what good is a win if you leave the arena with everyone thinking what a d i c k you are." Yeah, I bet every race he runs he's really concerned about what the 100s of people watching think about him. that's all that really matters. are you kidding me ?? |

Just watched the video, that was awesome. Wyner was being a dick, but that was entertaining as hell. I can't imagine what kind of stuff I'd pull if I was that fast. If we had Americans who could do that in Europe (maybe Webb in 2007?) it might have a chance of getting on Sportscenter, and attracting more mainstream fans. Classy or not, this is the way to make track and field popular in America. |

Other than today, when has Wyner won a HEPS title only to have it taken away for unsportsmanlike conduct (as the original poster on this thread stated)? |

I'd like to make three points for reference for this thread: 1) Wyner has a background in this. While this incident may/may not be worthy of a DQ, his history at Heps makes him a lightening rod- same as Ron Artest or Pacman Jones. Like it or not, Wyner has a shorter leash at this point, and he should be aware of that. 2) Wyner has already won Heps titles, and with True and Boylan-Pett gone, he couldn't have possibly been that surprised/excited by another title- he was the favorite going in. That means his showboating was less 'excitement' and more 'premeditated/unsportsmanlike.' 3) Considering that former Heps champs Boylen-Pett just dusted the BigEast, and True has now gone pro, I wouldn't discount the conference, especially at 1500 meters. |

The three officials concerned: Mel Rosen, Harry Groves, Mark Kostek, have no history with Wyner, and have exemplary qualifications to be officials. |
| Uh, 3:47? |

He's not that fast! |

They simply made a mistake. I am really shocked that Harry, of all people, agreed with this decision. Perhaps it looked worse from the finish line? The video is pretty clear cut, does not warrant a DQ. |

Yeah, like Groves would overlook cockiness like that? |

2006 Indoor Heps 1000m. "the apparent winner of the 1,000 meters, Cornell's James Wyner, was disqualified for impeding another runner. That handed the title to Penn's Tim Kaijala, who finished with a time of 2:24.97." http://www.ivyleaguesports.com/article.asp?intID=4965 |

It's incredible that Samara wanted to get Wyner DQed. Why did he bother? I'm sure a class act like Maag doesn't consider this a 'win'. That kind of guy can win on his own, as he demonstrated AMPLY later in the meet. If Princeton had really managed to win based on this, would Samara really be happy? His team was so far out of contention that they had no reasonable shot at winning anyway. This whole thing seems like the needless and rage-driven crusade of an old man (while getting his 7th annual paddling at heps) f***ing with a immature little college kid. |

You guys realize that we have 3rd party officials so that emotions do not come into play when making decisions. The officials were obviously affected by the crowd reaction and they got the ruling wrong. Him getting DQd 20 times in the past should have nothing to do with it. |

Oh big deal. It's done, it's not that important, move on. |

Samara pulled an official aside and was yelling while gesticulating wildly (imitating Wyner's finish.) Clearly he was lobbying for something... |

How many times has Galen Rupp celebrated for winning a race and got DQ'd? What about Rupps' finish in the 5000 in the first heat at the trails? His looking back and extreme celebrating for the indoor relay? People have different personalities. Some are outgoing, some are shy. Some are thrilled when they win something they have been training for and some are just content with winning. A lot of people were upset with the way Torrence was for winning the mile championships. This is a guy choosing to put a work career on hold to pursue a passion he has. Just won a bunch of money that will help him a lot, plus re-enforced his reasons for continuing his training. He was beyond thrilled, so he showed emotion. I think every runner who wins a NCAA Championship this year should celebrate to the fullest that their personalities will let them. If Rupp wins, you know he will be celebrating as flamboyantly as possible and he won't be DQ'd. |

I think its a big deal. It's tough to win an Outdoor heps title. I love how some people act like the Heps is no big deal. To most of these guys its the biggest meet they ever have a shot at winning. Add in the team atmosphere and rivalries and it takes on a life of its own. Thats what makes it so great. |

That fast? Right, that's equivalent to a blazing 4:06 mile. He might place in the California HS State Meet. |

Rupp's behavior hasn't won him any fans either. And that celebration in a 5K heat at the Trials was about as bush league a move as I've ever seen. |
