Biggest Bullshit Lie You've Ever Heard About Running Times or Workouts

That shit really pisses me off. It's one thing when people are mistaken about their times or abilities. It's another thing when people insist on it even after you have explained how impossible it is. And the worst is people who "used" to run that fast, because you can't call them on it. They just say, "Oh I can't do it anymore but I could about 20 years ago". This gets my blood boiling about as much as women who smoke and drink while they're pregnant.

This guy found out that I run and so we started talking shop. He starts saying that he and his dad used to run Boston every year when he was in HS, and now he does triathalons with plans for the Iron Man. He recommends that we train together (I hate running with people, so not likely), so I ask what his aerobic run pace is - he says 5:00 for 10 miles! After that he says he craps out. I then ask what his current mile time is, and he says 4:30! We're two cube-dwellers in our late 20's! Very curious, I Google his name and nothing shows up anywhere. Wouldn't you think that if you were that fast you would show up somewhere?!?!

This dude at work was going off about a local 8k to all the chicks in his department, saying how he was going to run 5 minute pace, blah, blah. 1/2 mile into the race I pass the guy and proceed to get a terrible side ache half way through and finish just over 30 minutes, I'm not great admittedly, and he was about 90 seconds behind me. So, then he says, well I guess I have to hit the gym cause I was hardly breathing, my legs just wouldn't go any faster. So now I see him all the time throwing up as many weights as he can for an hour after his run everyday and he still hasn't run any faster. One of those guys that runs his mouth constantly about how good he is, but never follows through on race day. Douchebag.

So has Dr. Woldemeskel Kostre. Daniel Komen, who was slower than Geb at 5,000m, ran a 3:29 for 1500 and a 3:46.38 mile. That means he had at least 1:45 800 speed. Geb ran 3:31 indoors, a pace of 56-point per lap. He had to have had the ability to go 1:46. A 3:31 runner cannot run 3:31 off of 1:47, 1:48, or 1:49 speed.

Leaving aside the fact that you can't be of drinking age, I know you made this shit up because no self-respecting chicks in a bar, or even skanks for that matter, would suffer through an argument between a triathlete and a distance runner. It would be more arousing for women to watch little kids argue with each other about whose dad would win in arm wrestling.

This kid in middle school talked to me about running and he was pretty fat. He said that he could run a mile in 3 minutes and I say even the elite can not do that and then he changes his statement to 4 minutes and the whole time I am thinking that this kid is a moron.

Since the Corporate Challenge times (at least in NYC) are self-reported, and by definition come from cubicle dwelling toads, liars and once a year road race wonders...I would say 99% of the times reported in those races are BS.

I would love to see someone actual reconcile the actual finish times with what those losers report. In defense of those who run for fun, this mostly applies to the hundreds of overly agressive men who try to cram up front at the start.

Talking about military runners again..... I ran this "5K" in the Air force, it was wayyyyyyy short, I won it in get this, like 12:48. I got in the base newspaper and everyone was all on my shit, i was like its only about 2.5 miles. But the person behind me got like a 14:4? insisted thats what he was running in high school. I called total bullshit and about got in a fight with the dude.

Some of us already know, even though we don't really know the guy. He justs projects the BS loud enough for anyone who is unwittingly caught anywhere near him to be subjected to it. Pretty major tool, in more than just running. Too bad he couldn't talk his way into Team Hudson like some other local poseur hacks have, because Wetmore sure has no use for the likes of him.

classic case of the "i could have done this" in hs type kid. half decent 400m guy, nothing amazing, ran maybe a 51 and made it to the state meet. i think he ran about a 2:05 800m, "but with the workouts he did, he was about a 1:55 guy." and of course, he only ran the 800 once and didn't take it seriously. ya know, like an easy win at a dual meet or something.

I'm a highschool xc coach/accounting teacher. I had a football player state that he could beat any of the runners on my team. I asked him what his best 5K time was and he said "around 10 minutes". Then I asked him what his 2 mile time was, and he said "around 15 minutes". At that point, I just nodded my head and agreed with him.

Hey, I heard from Bryce himself that he ran 25:00 on the buffalo ranch, most likely after pacing the army guys through a 3:10 1200. Hey, we'll all see after the shhotout, right?

I had a 42 year old recreational runner tell me that he had run 300,000 miles in her life. My reaction was automatic,

"THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND?!?!? The most I've heard of has been Ron Hill's nearly 150,000 miles since 1967."

"Well, I added them up and it was right around 300,000."

And I thought, "Well, if you started running at 12 years old, that's 10,000 mi/yr or 200mi/wk."
