Didnt he have a stress reaction two weeks ago?
This guy really keeps his fans on the edge of their seats. One week he is injured, next week he is running a race! I am thinking he probably had his leg examined for the millionth time and the Doc said "OK."
1:44.67 FTW!
DNF
DNS, hopefully
assuming he runs, 1:49.8.
not that fast considering his indoor mile pr but I don't think his top speed is that quick, I just think he's super strong and even with good turnover, but not blazing speed.
This shows that Dave Smith is the most screwed up coach ever.

What German actually possesses, compared to what he's been trained for, may be different. He had a coach in HS who apparently wasn't experienced, used the Daniels Formula (nothing wrong with that), but didn't do any training faster than race pace (if I can trust the interviews from Dyestat). All we heard when he was in HS--at least all I read--was how German didn't have that much speed and needed to concentrate on distance events.
But since he got to OSU, we seem to be finding out different, and he seems to be looking more like a faster version of Teg every month. Once he gets a chance to develop that speed, we may find out that there's nothing at all wrong with German's speed.

Wrong. You haven't been paying attention.
u may be right, a bit like rupp seemed for so long.
i base my statement off of his 1600's last year in high school and his indoor miles this track season. he has so far run fast by running incredibly consistent splits but has not shown the ability to unleash a lethal last 200 - 400. fernandez did do 4x400 relays and 800's in high school though so it's not as if he hasn't tested his speed at all.
it'll be interesting to see. if he goes 1:49 he can still be good miler, but if he can get into 1:47 right now then I'd say he can be a damn good miler.
Hope he read the sub 1:50 800 thread!
You really don't know what you are talking about. Bruce Edwards (his hs coach) has been producing championship teams and athletes in the central valley for 30 years. The reason that he didn't do a whole lot of stuff faster than race pace was due to the fear of injury. Also, Bruce was very cognizant of the "big picture", trying to bring German along at a reasonable rate, but making sure there was gas in the tank for a college/pro career.
Besides. 20x200 @ 30 with a 30 second rest is a studly workout for a high school kid during the cross country season. So is running 2 x 2k @ 66-67 pace for the first 1800 then dropping a 29 second 200 for the last 200 (a workout he did while prepping for the track post season as a senior.
Aren't you the guy that said that the American milers were wasting their time "jogging" in cross country?
To the OP, I hope that German doesn't race so soon. I know the kid and know that he loves to get out there and compete, but dang....what happended to taking a month off to completely recover?
Clearly you need to read the interview with Dave Smith his coach. It turned out the stress reaction wasnt nearly as serious as originally thought and he was able to cross train right away after getting back to Stillwater. The doctors said there was no real threat and although it would feel uncomfortable for a while he would be fine. Now your up to date.
I agree. What the hell is Dave Smith doing? Even if German is not injured this is just too damn much racing. He should take at least another 2-3 weeks or so off What do you guys all think? Does this make sense to you guys?

Personally I'd rather German not race again for another month or so, skip NCAAs and gear up for Worlds. But I think Smith is planning on German calling it a season after NCAAs, which is only, what, 8 weeks away? So basically he'll run this weekend to test his fitness/speed, then we'll see him run a 1500 to hit the A standard at Cardinal probably. After that it'll just be Big-12s (wouldn't be surprised to see him double there again - 15/5k), Regionals, Nats. 6 races in two months, then a long break leading up to Cross. That would be my guess.
I think Dave Smith doesn't have a clue what he's doing.
Maybe at Stanford he'll have German running in the 200 meters.
Lots of coaches enter athletes just in case and then forget or fail to pull them before the meet.
I thought the dude was injured and planning on taking a month off? Anyone think, injury aside, that maybe he needs a month off anyways?

I did and think that he still should take a little break. Unless, as someone else suggested, he is going to shut down after NCAA (probably also a good idea).
