Could she? I think so.
Could she? I think so.
If Tirunesh ran the 800m now I predict she would run a couple of seconds outside 2 minutes
As she does not have any races at 800m or 1,500m I predict that altough she has run 58 for a last lap, stringing 2 sub 60's together would be difficult
If she did some specific 800m training I'm sure a sub 2 would be on the cards. However, with such success over the longer distances this is not likely to happen.
Even sub 2 runners quite often do a season opener oustide the mark whilst their speed endurance is being honed. This would be the position Dibaba would be in if she ran an 800m now.
she has gone 56high for a last lap of a 5k...she could probably run a 1:58, 1:59 at the slowest.
Sub-2 definitely. If she actually trained for the event, I think she'd be a medalist in the Olys or WCs. I don't think she'd take down Jelimo, but might give Jepkosgei a run for her money in the 1:56 range.
she's just that talented.
You are aware that she has closed a 5000m in 56sec and has run the last 1500m of a 5000m in 4:06? And that wasn't off a painfully slow pace: that was at the end of her 14:11 WR last year. She could run 3:55 or 3:56 for 1500m so yes, she can break 2:00.
If you're talking about the '08 Olympic 5k, that was a painfully slow pace for those ladies. They passed 1k-3:39 and 3k-9:58.

He just told you it was her world record run.

My bad, but she ran 4:06 the last 1500 of her Olympic 5k win too. I think her 2:03 last 800 of the Olympic 5k shows she can break 2.
Her last 1000m in Beijing was around 2:36, I think. But, the 4:06 finish to the 14:11 WR is way better.
In her sleep!
she could run 1:57 or so i bet. ....think about all the guys that run 14:10 give or take, even the really distance oriented guys can break 2
I don't know. I think she can probably break 2, but LSU had a 5k/10k guy who ran 14:19 and 29:39 a couple years ago. His best 1500 time was 4:00 and he ran it multiple times. I think he might've had a difficult time breaking 2.
Did he close 5000s in 56 or 4:06? Tirunesh will probably finish her career with a 5000m best of 14:05 or better.
I'm a guy who also specializes in 5 and 10. I just barely broke 15, she is about to push sub-14... I once hit a 1:59, so I think she can too.
Yes
there are a ton of high school kids who can break 2:00 but could never come close to 14:11. Pretty much any 14:11 guy could break 2:00 with no problem. Being a female, maybe doesn't have speed but should have no problem clocking sub-2 time
"not an 800 guy" took the words out of my mouth. Whats her PR like 14:11...how many 14:11 guys do you know who can't go under 2:00 for 800 easily?
Yes she can!
Without a doubt she would.
yes
easily.
Her last 1500 at Beijing was more like 4.03 high or 4.04 dead.
She looks so effortless moving fast, I think she could probably run 3.53 or so for an all out 1500.
Her 800 would be worse, but probably 1.55-1.56
