Sell on Ritz

Sell said during the Olympics he got to see how hard Ritz and Hall worked and said they worked even harder than him, kinda puts there talent into perspective.

He is a smart guy. He is always going to compliment his competition and put himself down.

I believe that was his response to why he was the best runner in the world and consistently underperformed in the Olympics.

Of course they "work" harder than him... they're full-time sponsored professional runners. Sell has to fit in his schedule around other work (and still manages 165/week). If Sell had all day to just train he would be training even harder and probably would close the gap to Ritz and Hall in a matter of years.

It might be "harder" but it wouldn't be "more."

Brian works because he wants to not because he has too. He makes a guaranteed $100k from running alone. His wife works as a nurse 24 hours a week (according to the interview). That is probably another $25-$30k a year. A family income of $125-$130k without a job. They live in the suburbs of Detroit where the cost of living is low. If Brian chooses to work, it is a choice.

I think that Brian Sell is trying to live up to an image. He is not a red neck or a blue collar runner. This is simply an image that Hansens and Brooks has made for him. His working is simply to help portray this image.

He owns his own house in Rochester Hills. From what I am told, this is a rich suburban area. Not living in a trailer like Hall.

He is married to a hot nurse who is capable of supporting the family. Probably with great health insurance.

He has a shoe sponsorship worth 6 figures a year.

Probably a 2 car family.

Sponsors pay for travel and equipment.

WHAT SUFFERING DOES HE DO?

There are plenty of blue collar runners out there, Brian Sell is not one of them. I am sure he works incredibly hard but he lives a life that most of us dream of. Stop trying to pass off this blue collar bull shit.

You\'re completely ignorant. He\'s a blue collar runner because of the hard work he did to get himself to the Olympics. Now that he\'s gone there, it\'s easy to see that he can relax a little bit. He is a blue collar runner, but it\'s easy to think otherwise once the blue collar runner reaches success like Brian Sell did.

So his mileage is what makes him blue collar? Okay, I can deal with that.

His lifestyle is cushy though. Plenty of cash, nice home, attractive wife, healthy kid. Worry free and livin the dream.

I hate Hansons and Brian Sell for just that reason. They have a great sponsorship deal and as many perks as any place in the country but they always try to act like they are the hardworking underdogs. They pull up in a pimped out bus or spend the winter in Florida and then cry about how rough life is. Cry me a river. How many guys are on food stamps? How many guys are living out of their cars?

I don't agree with that. I want numbers before I believe generalized statements like that.

165 miles at 6 minute pace is 16 and a half hours of work a week. Keep crying. It is far easier than pretty much any job that pays 6 figures.

It's easy? Alright, go run 165 miles a week and 6 minute pace for 10 years of your life. I bet you wouldn't last 3 days.

p.s. I bet they lift weights for a considerable amount of time each week as well.
