Why are Texans so proud to be from Texas?

Sure, there are miles of scrub land in West Texas that are completely worthless. But, Texas is a big state.

I would add the Cypress swamps in east Texas, the coastal wetlands on the Gulf, but this website would think I was a spam bot.

Texas takes time to learn and understand. It doesn't present itself in a nice neat package like states with lots of tourists. But that is what makes Texas better than a lot of states. We have a lot going on without a bunch of idiots from New Jersey wandering around everywhere.

Maybe most Texans know what the rest of the country thinks of them and that's why they constantly have to tell each other how great they are.

My boss is from Texas and he always implies that Texas is the most unique state, often starting phrases with "we have a saying in Texas...." or "the thing about Texas is...." when it's completely irrelevant to our conversation.

I have noticed TxRunnergrl offer up "unique" aspects of Texas, sometimes unwarranted.

I have no interest in hearing about Texisms.

Maybe in the cowboy movies Texas is a bit gay and quere. But when you go there it's the same as Columbus, Seattle, Hartford, Atlanta, Provo, and Palm Springs (the towns where I have lived for more than 1 year). The same malls, the same TV shows, the same culture. Sure they have some quaint local folklore but it's regarded as a playing up to tourists and not real.

Obviously you don\\\'t know much about Texas geography. There is some flat land, but also mountains (West), rolling hills (Austin and central), Coastal (South), Forests (East). Remember, it\\\'s a pretty big state- don\\\'t just stereotype the whole state by what you happen to see on an old western movie.

Okay, let me clarify. 90% of Texas is flat and windswept...including West Texas, South Texas, North Texas, Panhandle, East Texas (but not Far East Texas). The driving between the places you mentioned is horrendous.

Tourists really get short-changed visiting Texas....why would they?

I had a roommate from Texas. First thing he did when he moved in was put up his damn flag in my window. It's bad enough to room with a Texan, but to be implicated as well... it was too much.

Nah, Texas used to be special after gay Sam Houston was forced to leave Tennessee and migrate to Texas. But now gays live all over the South and the United States. Austin, Houston, and Dallas are rivaled by only Atlanta with the best and largest gay communities in the South. Not ever having lived in Texas though, Texas is still special to me because of what Sam Houston did for LGBTs.

I'm proud of my home state, but I don't make it the theme and obnoxious point of joy in my life. I don't become dogmatic about my state in conversations; I don't go off bragging and talking down to people. IT'S A STATE.

I've lived in the somewhat great state of Texas for over a decade. Lucky enough to live in Austin but I've traveled all over Texas while living here.

Texas has some pretty cool shit. Its so spread out that you really need to take a descent sized trip to see it all though. If you packed all of the cool stuff in Texas into a average sized state people would think it was a pretty damn nice place. Mountains, coastline, Austin, hill country, cool small town and everything else. Problem is that there is alot of shit in between the good stuff.

Overall, it has alot more upside than most people realize. People love to hate on it though!
