Part 2
For part two on the right side under related videos, there is one titled, "Girlfriend Revenge Video." I Highly recommend that.
i don't know about the duel part, alsal set a good pace, then centro moved into position, took control, and dropped him like a bad habit.
Great video. Very nostalgic. Thanks
I now know with certainty that Larry Rawson was challenging viewers to go down to their local high school track prior to my father seducing my mother.
As someone who knew several of the athletes in this race...
I'll say this, the commentary is very knowledgeable, SO much more so than today's commentary.
Alberto Salazar, was/is an individual who was somewhat of an exception of the talent rule.
If ever I met an athlete who mentally willed, and physically worked his way to greatness and fame...it would be Alberto. He sacrificed some things, and paid some prices and learned some humbling life lessons in the process -- all of which he has brought to wisdom in coaching Mr. Rupp.
As for Centrowitz, very different personality, talent from the beginning, New York savvy and toughness... Tough runner, dedicated runner...

You came across it tonight or you posted those videos, which is it?
If he were linking to his own video, he wouldn't have waited a few months to do it.
You never hear much of the connection between Centro and Pre, but clearly there was one.
Maybe Tyson had the copyright on such things...
The guys in the 70's and '80s always looked like they could handle themselves in a bar fight, as opposed to the elite guys these days.
Salazar, Cummings, and Centrowtitz all had to have been around 160.

I think in Al Sal's training guide he mentions that he weighed 144 during peak racing shape.

It was a yards track at the time, IIRC: twelve laps plus ~172m to get 5,000m.
Thanks for the link! Also a great effort from Ralph King (I almost called him Ralph Hill--I wonder how many remember him?), who ran 13:18.
Great race! thanks for linking this.
I was in the stands that day and the feeling was definitely electric.
Awesome!
The only downside is realizing that Larry Rawson has been using that "go down to your local high school track" bit for more than a quarter of a century.
But not as much of the Yoda way of speaking did Rawson back then.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
