The graduate program in Kinesiology at Marywood University (in Scranton, PA) is accepting applications for new students and we have scholarships available. This program is going into it's second year and we are hoping to increase enrollement (currently 7 students). I know there are a bunch of people on this board interested in going to grad school and studying running or exercise physiology.
Running is one of the main areas I study and I am a competitive runner myself. I currently have a few studies regarding electromyographic activity of certain muscles during running and many more projects which are under development. Any grad students who come through definitely will have a chance to do running research if they want to.
Our labs currently have an 8-channel telemetric EMG system, two wireless accelerometers, a gigantic treadmill (made for roller-skiing), multiple metabolic carts, multiple ergometers, a BodPod, Cybex, DEXA scan, environmental chamber, and lots of pulmonary testing equipment. We also can do a lot of in-house bloodwork with ELISA and HPLC. So there is a lot of potential to study running with all of that equipment.
Our Human Physiology Laboratory is very well funded and performs a number of clinical trials, with an emphasis on exercise-induced asthma. One of the current studies is investigating the effects of Viagra on athletic performance and has received national attention:
