Interesting how lydiard talks about the later development of colder climate people.
The comments on grass tracks are interesting.
I always prefer running on grass and wish there were grass tracks in the states.
Lydiard sure changed a lot from 1962 to 1977 and later, having become much more cynical.
Snells comment at the end was quite humorous.
I liked Lydiard's confidence.
Snell is a machine of beautiful motion. So much talent.

interesting how lydiard comments on how people who live in warmer climates "have long calves" and "peak earlier". i wonder if he is taking back those words now as the africans (clearly not temperate climate people) have taken over the sport of middle and long distance running from white folk like Peter Snell

Yeah, as noted above, Arthur is dead. The E. Africans are all high-altitude dwellers, clearly different from the sea-level sub-Saharan Africans who have made significantly less impact in middle and long distance running. I have to ask if a lot of sportscasters need to take back their words after white boxers have taken 18 of 21 boxing championships from 150 lbs up through heavyweight? The pendulum always swings. Sometimes slowly, but it always swings...
