Calling 4:30 miler, come in 4:30 miler.....
This is rubish! Tergat misses the most top notch events like London marathon and appear for a 3rd class marathon race? it will never happen.Ask any race director and they'll tell you getting tergat to turn up for a race he has commited for is like searching for a needle in the hay.
Really? Any examples? Just ask any race director, such as Mary Whittenburg? I was always under the impression that Tergat was a class act. This seems incongruent. At the age of 39 he must be thinking that the appearance fees are good money and the Japanese certainly treat(pay) marathoners as royalty. I think Tergat would be the first to say that his 2:05 days are well behind him. I wish him well and look forward to seeing the results.
i would not call it a 3rd class marathon race, the course record is 2:07:34, the race has produced 6 sub 2:08 marathons and over 20 sub 2:09 performances, has tergat been in bigger races YES, but maybe he does not feel he is in form to be as competitive as he would like to be in london, he still will most likely have to run 2:06-2:08 to win on march 1st.
Technically speaking, since Biwako now has an IAAF gold label it is actually a first-class marathon.

need to run <2:30 to get in the race, then hit these times
For traffic and security reasons and for management of the race, checking stations will be closed after cut-off times. Cut-off times are as follows;
15km point: 53 minutes
20km point: 1 hour 10 minutes
25km point: 1 hour 28 minutes
30km point: 1 hour 48 minutes
35km point: 2 hours 09 minutes
40km point: 2 hours 30 minutes
So you can't have a "bad day" at this race. Elite only, or get your sorry Richard Simmons ass off the course.
Biwa has always been a serious race....
