I've been a believer in him until today, watching him race the McDonnell Mile was painful. I was wrong, the doubters were right. Sigh.

Actually, I'm with you. I was holding out hope for him, but I really have to have doubts at this point.
Same here, I've been a Webb supporter since he came out of high school. After the trials I kept the faith, defending him always. After today I don't know what to think. Maybe that German kid is our next American hope...doesn't look like Webb is our savior after all.
Hard to run fast in the 2nd and 3rd lane when you don't have a stagger.
You'd think a 1:45 guy would have enough acceleration to get in the race off his 3k pace. My concern is that he hesitated from lost confidence. I've believed in him throughout this process but it looks like he doesn't believe in himself.
He is actually being monitored very closely. He knows what we're talking about.

Yes, I am thankful to see German emerge (as Webb falters) and hopefully fill the void as a true world contender going forward for the US.

I used to not believe these things, but based on his performance the last 8 months and appearance change, it's really starting to look like the rumors were true.

World Champs and the Euro GP circuit is in the summer. I'd love to see how well these premature ejaculators fare during that time. Have faith, the webbster is probably pouring on the miles and is not race sharp.
I hope Webb isn't falling into the Steve-Magness-syndrome and over analyzing everything to death. Just run baby.

Maybe he reads Letsrun too often.

The people on this board are to quick to label someone a hasbeen. Running is a sport of hills and valleys. If your in it long enough there are going to be times when you just don't perform as well. Webb is in a bad spell right now. Thats all it is. He has been in this before, and he came back and was dominate. I believe he will come back from this just the same. Just like Meb was in a bad spell and came back. Just like Goucher has been in a bad spell and come back. There are only a few runners, those are the greats like Geb and Bekele, that have careers without down spells like this. Even El G went through a small time period just before his last olympics when he was having a hard time. It's just part of the sport. In another year, Webb will be the best mile runner in America. Probably the 5k too.
True that. I'm curious to see how Willis does in outdoor track. Most likely he'll build up again and peak and be just fine, but he is really sharp right now... I hope you're right about Webb.
