Once again, he wilts under pressure and seddles for second.

He ran faster then you will ever run a 5000 indoors.
Oh and learn how to spell settle
Racing for place in a championship meet (NCAA championship, USATF championship, IAAF Championship, Olympics, whatever) is very different than racing for place in a mid-season meet.
Sure it would have been cool if Rupp won the race today, but arguably getting a fast time was more important (even forgetting about the fact that that time set a record).
Is there even prize money for winning a race like this?
Funny, I seem to recall an NCAA Cross country Championship he won. I bet there's an NCAA Indoor race he'll win, too.
He just got a very close 2nd to a guy with a 13:04 PR. Pretty decent.
I hate trolls.
Oh so now win is not what running is all about. This is why Pre is a legend and Rupp will never approach Pre. he used to race for the win and now Americans are content to be time trialist. Running behind someone to break the wind and then saying I'm the fastest American.
You are a troll!
Anyone that wins an NCAA XC championship does have the guts to win a race.
I can't help but think that the NCAA XC race has given him tremendous confidence.
I wish him very well. And what a performance for a college athlete today.
Didn't Rupp almost win tonight? How did the race unfold?

I'm a very bad troll apparently.
It takes more than just pure guts to win a race. U may be a very gutsy person but if u have a 5k pb of 14 mins, there is no way in hell u can beat bekele. No amount of guts can make up a difference in ability.

I noticed that the topic creator conveniently avoided replying to this post. Definitely a troll.
But he does have the guts to set an American Record.
I know it's "what you do" nowadays, but I get a kick out of Shalene and Galen posing next to the big finish line clocks after their losing efforts. To me that's something you do only if you win. I'd like to see Ejigu and Daba posing next to signs that say "Actual Race Winner."
Yes, setting the AR is a big deal. No, I will never run as fast as Galen, and I've only run a few seconds faster than Shalene. But the point of the race is to win.
Rupp was forced to lead the last two laps to go after the record. Good tactics on the Etho's part to force Rupp's hand. Both where flying the last lap. If Rupp had help he could have gone even faster.
My thread was deleted the other day which read "Should American records count if you lose the race". I guess the moderators where offended.
Let's run posters complain all day that the African's are beating us down and how can we be better than them and such. Why don't we start by getting mad when we lose races to them and use that as motivation to beat them instead of prouncing around celebrating second place.
Did you see the Arizona Cardinal's dancing after the Steelers beat them? Exactly, the cardinal's let the loss sting so that they can come back stronger next time. They didn't lose to the steeler's and say we broke a record for best Cardinal's team. American distance running needs to wake up. Flanagan and Rupp should have been pissed losing to the African's not celebrating there records. There is plenty of time to celebrate when there careers are over.

YOU should break an American record and then you can speak of "WE."
I know! Did you see how "excited" Flanagan was when she got only the bronze medal? It's as if she won something when she didn't win the race at all! Same thing for Willis -- he got his ass handed to him by Ramzi, and yet he's going on and on about what an honour it is, blah blah blah, and he didn't even win the race! Why did he even bother showing up, right?
Figures, another Let's run poster focused on Simantics'and not on the truth. We as in American, not we as in you are predictable defensive.
Truth of the matter is Rupp ran great, looked smooth, showed Salazar Savvy not being baited to the lead and finished strong. I take nothing away from his effort, but like Lionel Larry(USC)said after winning the 200 at Tyson "I am glad it worked out how it did" in not making the olympic team. It's given me the motivation for this year. I don't want to see American elite runner's(They! Happy?) get complacent satisfying themselves with American records that are really behind the times on the world stage.
If no American runner should ever be pleased with any effort short of the best in the world, I guess we should all just be disappointed all the time, hang our heads in shame after an AR performance, cry after getting a silver or bronze medal.
Because obviously if you're not #1, you're garbage, right?
