Johnny blue screams pretentious. Don't order a drink because you like being seen ordering it. Order something you like, and stick to it. Do your own thing man.
yes, be a "man" that everyone thinks is a douche. great advice!
if your boss or important colleagues don't drink, then don't drink.
if they do, then you better at least have something in your hand.[/quote]
That "something in your hand," though, doesn't have to have alcohol, and some folks can't drink due to either taking medication or recovering from alcoholism. Sometimes if I don't want to drink alcohol, I'll just have club soda with a twist.
As for alcoholic drinks, lots of good suggestions and some ... um ... interesting ones.
I agree about the microbrews. No need to give up beer if you like it. You can show a bit of sophistication in your choice--maybe say something on the order of "what do you have in a Belgian wheat beer?" [or substitute another preference, but you get the idea]
I'm sitting here now, friday night, responding with a glass of bourbon and a couple of ice cubes. I also enjoy scotch neat and gin martinis.
I love beer...and most places I go usually provide a good selection of beer, whiskey, and gin. I usually mix it up, and drink what I'm craving that particular night. The key is to find something that you enjoy, and taste as many variations of it as you can.
