Ben True is a fine collegiate runner and I'm sure he is probably an upstanding citizen and student as well but it seems like he gets an inordinate amount of attention on these boards compared to similar runners. Probably because he is a two sport athlete.
I think he deserves the attention. He dominates the Ivys (I know, I know, most on here think the Ivys are glorified DIII...whatever), is a three sport All-American, and has broken 4 for the mile. He's proved he's one of the top competitors in the NCAA time and time again. What more you do want from him?
Well...Princeton's women's team is certainly not a D-3 team
The Ivy league is much better than glorified DIII. Please, look at some of the other leagues. Patriot league? Sun Belt? Conference USA?

He's also run 3:40.17 which makes him one of the top returners in the Ncaa.
The fact that he's never focused on running all year round is what makes people wonder, and hope he just picks track and focuses on it.
He won a 3k today in 8:05, his first indoor race ever.
Pretty solid start to the season!

he's ugly
he's hot
One of you says he's hot, one says he's ugly...is it not possible that he is both?

I'm almost certain he ran at least one season of indoor track in middle school. And, no, I'm not making this up.
Also, 8:05 isn't bad for this early, and 8:08 isn't bad for Jenkins.
So I read the article and am confused. Will he continue to run all season? Or will he stop running and ski later in the season. I don't care about all season. I just care about Heps.
Is this going to be one of those Deion Sanders situations where he has a helicopter to take him from the Heps to the NCAAs?
Does he have any outdoor eligibility left?

I would argue that Nate Jenkin's 8:08 is more impressive. It's a miracle that guy can run under 8:20.
damn, i was all over this story in december. haha.
Thanks for the links. I love Ben True and have been talking him up on DyeStat for quite a while. He's got a lot to offer today's youth and DyeStat provides a good forum for me to get the message across about this running messiah. He's really something.
True gets a lot of press because he is really easy to root for. He's super nice, he's super funny, he works really hard and NEVER loses focus, he's kind of a throwback New England type guy, and he's a two sport star.
Also, he's run 3:40 and anchored Dartmouth's DMR to some very high finishes at Penn. It's not like he's overrated.

I agree that he deserves a lot of press. I hope he can get All American indoors and skiing at the same time this season.
He is also deserving of a shoe deal. 3:40 lately hasn't been wooing the shoe deals but since he is such a unique athlete, he could be worth it for the right company. He is certainly inspirational.
3:40 is not deserving of a shoe deal, I don't care if he is a two sport athlete? I actually am a little dissapointed he never finished higher at NCAA's in cross country. He showed alot of promise early on but never really made it big. Also his 3:40 is from 2 years ago, he gotta make a comeback to prove hes still a legit runner deserving of a contract.
