Baby jogging strollers -- how young is too young?

sorry, no solid data here, but as long as your baby is strong enough to hold their head still then you will be fine.

the younger the child the flatter they should be sitting than older ones who can sit more upright.

you can get one of those cushions that can sit around the babys head and neck to support them also.

For the BOB you can buy a car seat adapter which allows you to use the stroller earlier on.

Apparently you don't have a child or the other commitments attendant with household responsibilities and employment. Sometimes despite your best efforts you can only get out for a run while pushing a BOB. Case in point - Wednesday morning I have a nice run in the neighborhood, but if I want a run that night I'm solo on the parent front so I leave the BOB and daycare and run from the house to pick my son up and run home with him. Voila - 8 miles. No other way I could run a second time on Wednesday unless I bailed out of work at 300p which is not real conducive to making money.

I just took my 13 week old (little over 3 months) out for a quick 2 miler last week to see how he handled it. I used a head support and a thick infant snowsuit to keep him snug while strapped in. He slept the whole way. It was an old Baby Jogger i found on Craigslist for $75 that was never used.

Altho as a engineer I like data to support generalities as well, this was an area that I was not willing to push the envelope of accepted norms.

Your little baby's brain is at its most fragile right now and it needs to last the rest of your baby's life (give or take friday nights at college). So I didn't take chances. I asked every doctor, every runner and basically everybody and nobody really knew. Everybody guessed about 6 months to a year.

So I chose a year and stuck to it. I didn't see why I should bother taking the chance. I found other ways to run or just didn't run.

it all has to do with head support. the standards are written assuming 1) all babies are the same and can hold their head up at the exact same age, and 2) adults with children have no brain anymore and can't figure out a way to devise soemthing for the stroller so that baby's head is not rocking all over the place.

if the baby's head is supported and not rocking all over so his brain bashes into its skull, then you are good to go.

I ran with my son at a week old. We placed the car seat backwards-facing in the stroller and it fit prefectly. (Jeep/In-step) The nice thing is that he can look at me or I can close both canopys and he has a nice shaded/dry place to ride. He did 600 Mi. in the first seven months, went along for a 16 miler and beat me in a local race, He absolutely LOVES running with me. Initially we put a rolled up blanket around the head support to beef it up a little but I never saw any motion that would concern me. Funny thing is that when he gets fussy he likes me to run with one wheel in the grass along the edge of the path.

you are one sick sob. you need to get some counseling.

any man who tries to run with a baby stroller is a complete dilweed and better check between their legs and see if their manhood has shriveled up and died. These kind of guys are the type to carry a man-purse and wear crocs.

If you just use duct tape to strap the kids head to the stroller you can get your 3 miler in. No reason to wait 6 whole months.

I started to run with my daughter at around 5 months. I usually put her to laying position, because she likes to sleep while outside. She could keep her head firm from 3 months on, but I just waited to be sure. It's a convenient way of getting my run in, other than waking up at 4 AM and/or going out for a run at 10 PM. I don't care what anyone think about my manhood. I bet that half of those macho men could not even keep up with me (or my wife) while we push the stroller... That being said, I don't run with her more than twice a week, because also my wife takes her out 2-3 times per week. It's quite hard even on the level route. To keep 6:50-7min pace, I have to put an effort of 5:40-6min/mile, and much more in the hills.

This took me about 30 seconds to find.

i took my daughter at 5 weeks. we ran on flat, smooth surfaces. i rolled towels all around her so she didn't move at all. no problems at all.

my local shoe store owner said 4 months on road 5 off road and 6 if you want to try it on the treadmill if it is raining out or you want a tougher workout.

i waited till 7 months for the treadmill just to be safe and i am pr ing in every event from the 8 hondo to the thon.
