Mine just sent out an e-mail that said we would still be having our xmas party because fun is important to our company and it's not all about the bottom line... I think some people would prefer a bonus, but oh well.
Budget for last year's party was around 100k.
Ours was cancelled. I'm Islamic and my wife is Jewish so we don't have much of a Christmas at home anyways.
This is an unprecedented economy with people being laid off.
Wise move to cancel the holiday party for this year, although certainly people in the hotel and restaurant and hospitality business will suffer too.
But nevertheless a wise move.
We're still having ours...but of course we all pay $30 bucks to go to it. I'll be boycotting, once again.
party's still on, but holiday bonuses are not. terrible tradeoff
mine was on - but in a very, very limited fashion.
went to local bar-b-q sandwich place, buffet style - meat in trays, bottles of sauce, trays of potato salad, trays of baked beans. leave the room to go up front to stand in line for drinks. 1 drink ticket soda or beer. mrs. clucker stayed home.
previously, we have always gone somewhere nice, everyone gets dressed up, spouses are invited, etc.
this year, they should have saved the money - it was depressing and just reminded people that things suck.
seems like this was a bad omen ... this is also the place where we traditionally go for lunch when someone leaves the company.
Ours is canceled, but we got an additional day (Jan. 2nd) off.
I'm still in school, but one of my buddies who is co-oping right now had his holiday ham canceled. He was livid.
Everything is on hold at my company. I work in the financial industry. Cutbacks, budget cuts galore. I'm thankful for a job right now.
Mine is still on but I wish it weren't - enjoy working with most of my colleagues but not hanging with them.
So far we have been lucky, although I'm not sure how much longer it will last. We still had our party, no lay-offs (yet) , and still bonuses although we will probably only hit about 75% of our target for the year. I can't complain though, feel very lucky right now.
