I'm not an expert, but this is just my opinion of the Irish Results, It might seem harsh on some, and im sure everyone on the team would of wished they ran better so congrats for making the team but lets hope everyone can preform better next year.
Junior Girls 4th Shows great Potential
TREACY, Sara 12
was in a great positoin until last 200m could of got 6th , got ran outa top 10 in last 100m,with the GB girls doing so good no real suprise if sh had of finished higher. overall an ok result
FFRENCH O’CARROLL, Charlotte 15
prob ran aswel as expected, still has next year so should improve a lot
MAGEEAN, Ciara 17
maybe the best result of the weekend for ireland, still has 3 year i think in this race
MCCARTHY, Lorraine 33
i think she is under age next year but not sure, prob ran to potential on the day
JAMESON, Tara (54)
still has 2 years left so will improve a lot, would not worry to much about this race , can finish top 25 next year and build on that for 2010
FFRENCH O’CARROLL, Rebecca (60)
had a bad day, must of been sick, could produce a top 10 next year along with her sister
Junior Guys 8th very bad on day
MURPHY, Craig 19
best of the Juniors but still not good enough, there was talk of a top 10 finish after been the 5th european home in the world junior XC in March, and ran some impressive times in the summer, poor run
WARD, Ian 40
under age next year so should crach the top 15-20 in dublin, worked his way through the field, still not enough to say he had a great run tho.
FLYNN, David 51
started off slow and stayed that way for the race, poor run aswel from a guy that gets a lot of message board time
MULHARE, Michael 59
was sick for the trials, still seemed to be affected by that, went out to hard and just kept falling back the field, really a bad results for a guy who could of got top 10
FLYNN, Patrick (84)
first international at any level is tough, never got involved at an ystage and just went through the motions, never looked comfortable, still has next year, so i wuld expect a lot better, prehaps top 35-40
QUINN, Shane DNF
first time to run junior
first time to try run 6km
furst time to race best irish juniors never mind the best in europe,
still has 3 years to race in the juniors and has potential to medal if progresses well, prob has not been chal;enged in ireland or England for a cross country race ever before and it showed when he was in top 8 at the start, obviously not used to running mid pack with a lot of runners around him
U-23 Ladies 4th not wonderful in a weak race
BYRNE, Linda 10
Didn’t seem to reproduce the same form as last years race, can be said she under preformed on the day like so many more
GALLIGAN, Roseanne 21
Still has next year but didn’t preform great on the day, should get top 10 in dublin
DURKAN, Ciara 23
Might just of ran to her potential on the day, prob not expecting to finish much higher
KNIGHT, Hollie 26
Didn’t reproduce the same form as she showed in the ncaa, long season, but ran bad on the day, still has two years left in the u-23 race so should improve a lot, comes up on european athletics website as a british runner even in the results of this race
BAKER, Ashling (41)
Any ideas as to why she was selected, didn’t really look that fit during the race and didn’t run great
O’BRIEN, Eimear (64)
Had to be selected as she finished 3rd in the trial but really was not up to much, never looked like she was up to this level of running, which is worth noting is not as strong as the junior ladies, again comes up on the european athletics website as been american, anyone care to explain this?
U-23 Men 8th overall a poor reflection of the teams ability
MCCARTHY, David 24
Long season but ran bad for his standard, should improve a lot in next 2 years, has potential to medal in 2010 in u-23 race
YEATES, Richard 33
Some questioned his selection, but ran very well here or ran very bad at ncaa, either way not a bad results for him
CLOHISEY, Michael 37
Poor result, never got involved at the top of this race, where he should be, shows great potential over the country but has yet to produce a great race at this standard
POLLOCK, Paul 57
Seemed to fade as the race went on, poor run
FAHY, Jason (60)
Didn’t run well on the day and would of hoped to finish a lot higher.
COGHLAN, John (65)
Struggled from the start and was just going through the motions for the last 4k pr so, still has 2years left so hopefully we will see huge improvements
Senior Ladies 9th very weak, worst Irish team of the weekend, team hurt by injuries
CULLEN, Mary 4
Great run, shows she can mix it with the best, with a full year of training can medal next year in dublin
BYRNE, Deirdre 29
Tried hard but never really got going, you would feel she can improve
RYAN, Rosemary 41
Looked to try very hard and has been a great servant, did her best
MURPHY, Hazel 57
Came back to form last year and ran some great races, didn’t look anywhere near that on Sunday, ran poor and you would expect a lot better
HARTY, Kerry (60)
Not up to this standard, will have to improve a lot just to make next years team, with Aoife Byrne, Linda Byrne and F Briton hopefully back,
Senior Men 7th too many under preformed, poor result
FAGAN, Martin 24
Slip cost him a good result, carrying a cold into the race, has potential to medal if fit and well next year, no need to say much we all know he is a great runner
MCCORMACK, Alan 32
Having a great season and was catching martin on last lap, until Martin picked it up again. Will only get stronger if stays injury free
MURRAY, Gary 36
Came through the field well from a somewhat slow start looked to be doing his best running in the 2nd half of the race
LEDWITH, Andrew 37
Really disappointed, but I’m sure he can get top 20 with a good run, had a massive run in ncaa, but carried a cold into the race so wasn’t in ideal shape.
CARROLL, Mark (42)
Should not of been selected, stupid mistake by AAI, I’m not saying Joe Mac would of did any better but he will be available for the next few years, where as Mark retired during the summer after missing Olympics qualifying time
CHRISTIE, Mark (74)
Really had a disappointing run, I though he would of ran really well since he went into the race with little or no pressure on him with people saying he might only be 3rd or 4th scored, hasn’t produced his junior form at all, really needs to get a good result in one of these races to help his confidence at this level.
oh and no need to correct grammer or spelling, its just an opinion not a piece of liturature.
