You are a joke...how many Olympic Medals have come from UCLA or USC distance runners? The answer is ZERO.
She is much better off by going to a real distance school like Stanford or Oregon.
And, you have to be kidding about Cal Berkeley.

While I agree that this little rant gets very old I am pretty sure that a guy named Meb went to UCLA and has an Olympic Medal.
There are so many world class runners in L.A. that Hasay can train with. There are many Ethiopian and Kenyans in the West L.A. area her own age to train with. Seriously, the colleges don't have kids nor the coaches at her level that can take her to Olympic Gold. She should turn pro, enroll at UCLA or USC, and train with world class coaches and runners in the area.
Good point. Hasay is trying to do two things in the next 4-5 years, 1) get an education, 2) get ready for London. She likes the west coast. The best place for that combination is what she is looking for. At Cal, USC, UCLA, Stanford, she can accomplish 1). Turning pro and enrolling at Cal, Stanford, USC, or UCLA she can accomplish 1) and 2).
But running in the NCAA will just burn her out. NCAA distance coaches are not anywhere close to international level, and the athletes are not at her level. She should sign with a sponsor, choose a top school, then look in the area for an international level coach and running mates.
When was the last time a Stanford or Oregon distance runner won an Olympic medal ?

Meb ran for Bob Larsen
Meb never ran for UCLA. He did run for Bob Larson as a pro, but not when Larson was coaching at UCLA.
I am not sure, but I think that Oregon had Olympic medalists in Ralph Hill, Wade Bell, Joaquim Cruz and Jim Grelle for starters.
What is she interested in studying?
What does it matter? She will be an undergrad...a time to experiment with a lot of subjects to decide on what she really wants to do. Nowadays, a BA or BS degree is a dime a dozen, it is the Masters degree and beyond that will set her apart. I think she should live her running dream at the track and field mecca in Eugene, and then take her grad program at Stanford. Just my two cents worth, because look at the people who have followed on with successful pro careers. Many have come out of Eugene, but how many have come out of Stanford or Washington....let's be honest.

Are NCAA runners the runners they are because of their high school? Why would professionals be the runners they are because of their college?
You have a point, USC and UCLA are not huge distance universities, but don't assume nothing can come out of that.

Do you even know what Jordan might want to do for a career? If you decides to follow in the footsteps of her coach, a masters degree is pointless. I personally think she should turn professional and attend a school with strong academics, all while continuing to be coached by Dr. Siqueiros. Let's face it, he obviously knows what he is doing and the lack of knowledge concerning basic exercise physiology from so-called top college coaches is appalling. A rare talent such as Jordan needs to stay in good hands.

Meb won 4 NCAA titles for UCLA.
http://www.usatf.org/athletes/bios/Keflezighi_Mebrahtom.aspMeb got his Olympic Medal this decade. The others at Oregon were who knows when ? maybe when Jim Thorpe ran ? Hasay's best choice is to turn pro and enroll at Stanford as a student. Train with pros, and have a pro coach. Any NCAA coach will run her into the ground and destroy any future for her.
Maybe she should go to Oregon or Portland...as a student, and run with Kara Goucher and that group in Beaverton.
Then again, the smart move is to get a world class education at the University of Washington, and run with the reigning NCAA cross country champions!

I predict Meb loses is American 10K record to an Oregon runner, not only this decade, but this year. How recent is that for you. You have two olympians AT oregon right now. How many distance runners have competed at the olympics or world championships while AT ucla in the last decade or two?
So you think the smart thing is for her to be a student and run at the U of Washington? That is the most stupid statement yet. First off, Washington is a terrible school for undergraduates...huge classroom sizes and no emphasis on anything but grad students and research. And why would she want to run at a program like Washington? Did you see how many XC races Metcalf had his girls run this year? Talk about burnout waiting to happen. I'd be willing to predict that most of the current Washington girls will be hurt or out of running by the time they are junior or seniors. No, that would be the worst thing Hasay could possibly do. If she wants to run as a pro, she should either stay at home, or run with Salazar's pros up in Portland.
The kid has a brain for a Stanford education. How many kids are that smart. I sure was never close to that. She should turn pro and go to Stanford as a student, do laps at the track, and run as an independent at open meets on campus.
And just what do you think a bachelor's degree at Stanford will get her? It will get her the same as a bachelors degree at Beaufart College.....an opportunity to go into a no-pay (in this economy) entry level job as an assistant manager trainee at Burger King. It also will qualify her to go on to a Masters program at a good university, after which she will truly have a chance at a decent career. But, to think that a BA/BS at Stanford will do anything special for her is just being naive. As a pro in Palo Alto, who would she train with???
Don't nbe silly. A Stanford degree is something special in any field. Every parent would want that for their child. Even Metcalf, Vin, Kelly, AlSal, and of course Maurica and Andy would agree.
She should come to the UK and run with the AFD girls.
