Hey there, joker. Check that, hey jackass.
So the subject line asks the question "What ARE the best running CLUBS in the Country", sugesting more than one. Given the FACT that we finished 6th at last years club nats, behind a solid Farm Team B team, is enough evidence that we can contend with the best club teams in the nation. Someone gave a hard working, blue collar running club some positive recognition, and you in turn cut us down calling us JV. Do your homework! We Actually beat a loaded Farm Team at a road 5K this fall and later in a PA Cross Country Race. I'm not predicting a win for us at Nats this year but given our season, the marks our guys have run this year, we are one of the best teams in the country.
If you need the added confidence to run well this weekend then rather you should train better than put a team down. If you want to discuss this in person, look for transports adidas this weekend and ask for me, Konrad. Otherwise, Go back and hide in your cave of anonomity.
Konrad
How about Zap fitness, they have a small team as of now, but those that have been running for them have dramatically improved. Karl Savage beat many runners with better credentials in The National Championship 10k. Both Savage and Dan Wilson made the world XC team last year. both had some solid PRs. Look at the latest result from the Manchester race (Karl Savage led the way in the men's race, finishing 6th with a time of 22:19 for the 4.75 mile course. He was followed closely by Joe Driscoll in 7th (22:25) and Ian Connor in 10th (22:28). Brian Rosetti rounded out the ZAP men's team in 24th place (23:27).) Through their third guy they certainly outran any other team in the race. Those are big PRs for those guys, they are up and coming. Look for big things from Zap this year.
KK, it's EXACTLY that kind of outburst that gets you in deep shit with THE LLOYD!
Bell Lap Running Club is a new club forming out of Northern Jersey... First big race is gonna be Peachtree 10k in Atlanta on July 4th of 2004... Look for the bright orange singlets towards the front of the pack, I have a feeling theyll be there...
Hey Nick - he said "country". Not some tin-pot principality.
;)
Why are all the best Welsh clubs from the south coast?
because that's where all the sheep are...
What are the top 5 English clubs, would you say?

Really difficult to say, different clubs having strentghs in different areas.
Belgrave obviously have the stongest mens set up - across track and field and road and country.
Womens? Sale probably for track and field, Shaftesbury/WSEH/Chester le Street all win road and country titles, as do Charnwood. And if Bedford got their best team out...
Gets even more difficult to pick for the youngsters. Don't know much about U20 track, but just witness the number of different teams winning road and cross country titles.
Overall I would say Shaftesbury Barnet have the greatest strength over all ages and both sexes. But their senior track teams have seriously underperformed this last couple of years - they have been more hit than most by non turn out of their top athletes. Bucking that trend - I saw the best triple jumper in the world last year competing in the long jump, high jump and 4x100 in the semi final of the cup.
Message:
The adidas transport team is full of wannabes. They run well at road races not attended by elite athletes. Pit these guys against the Farm Team, Hansons, Wisco Track Club etc they don't stand a chance. They're a GREAT JV club. Nothing more.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!
how can you put WICONSIN TRACK CLUB in the same category as Hansons and the Farm Team! the wis track club is a nice club and everything, but they do not have any really fast athletes. as a matter of fact, they cannot compete at all!
the only track club in wisconsin that can be considered a really good team would be Wisconsin Runner Racing Team. i hope that is what you meant.
Good luck Konrad. Show them where it counts.

I agree on both accounts. I used to have thing for when I ran in college and she was all-american at Michigan State. What is she doing (like racing) now? Definately left out of the "hottest women" threads and should be on there.
I don't know what she is doing now, besides running for the Invaders. Did you know her in college?
Here are a bunch of the team record from some of the track clubs listed on this thread. Some of them had much better sites than others, so i wasnt able to get record from all events. also, some of these teams seem to be much deeper than other, and some of the record are very old on a few of the teams. i think this is a good judge of how good a club is. if fast people run for them, they must be doing something right. all of these clubs are pretty good, but some of the ones i went to ere not even worth puting up here. a few of you mentioned some "good teams" but i saw their times, and they were definately not ELITE running clubs.....i was fairly impressed with these ones - there are some big names in there.

I know her now and in college. She is still running and is quite a nice friend. I have only the best things to say about her. In college she was considered the 'enemy' as we went to rival universities, but she is the best friend you could ask for.
Farm team seems to be the best club, according to all the records, but they seem a little too "pro". they train at stanford, have a bunch of american record holders (that now run for nike). i guess i don't see it as a track club, but more of a farm team (just like the name says) for nike. nike trains them until they are good enough to run under the sacred NIKE name. am i right? or is there someone out there that runs for them that has a different view. i run for a club, and i just imagine that is is completely different.
I knew who she was in college but ran for a rival school. I just thought she came a long way at MSU and looked good while doing it.
hey stat fanatic, thanks for including GBTC in your records list. I manage those stats and its nice when someone else occasionally notices. On the men's side, we have a bit of a problem (a good problem) because during the GBTC superstar distance heyday not all of the times were printed in our newsletters (and the club does not have any copies prior to 1977). So occasionally we find new - but quite old - records. For example, our steeplechase record was always 8:45 by Greg Meyer , but I noticed last year he ran the 8:28 at the 1980 Olympic Trials, and Meyer confimed via email that he represented GBTC at the trials.
I think "best running clubs" depends on your interpretation. Sometimes, I feel that teams like the Farm Team are more "elite programs" than clubs. Obviously, the top teams like the Farm Team, Hansons, WRRT have great development structure, but many other running clubs do a lot more than just making a good XC team at Fall XC. For instance, GBTC, which admittedly is not in the same zip code as the elite groups, is an all-events club, which is really unusual up here in Boston. We have a 4x400 which ran 3:12 last year, which is pretty cool considering three out four were full time employees, only one was a grad student. Also, look at how the club supports local running. While we like to think of t&f as a little fraternity/soroity, in running the masses matter (they are the ones that support your local running shop by buying overpriced gadgets that they don't need). Clubs like Club Northwest host all-comers meets all summer for anyone who wants to give it a shot. They have no cuts or standards, and encourage all people to compete. Also, look at the social aspect. In Boston, I have never seen a bunch of runners simply having fun like the Somerville Road Runners, a surprisingly big club that hosts free weekly races that begin and end at a dive bar, deliberately so you can have a nasty 2 dollar Coors Light in a plastic cup afterward.
In terms of the full program though, for elites coming after college, developing athletes in all events, the Invaders really impress me. As long as Harger stays humble, he may just have something.
With taped up fists, "David Welsh" style ca. 1994. Good luck to all the heads competing this weekend!
Konrad
