USATF treasurer disputes Hightower statement

Very interesting view into how all of the committees spend their crumbs. Latimer $1426 for the Women's Trials? What?

USATF needs to just dump all of these people and start all over again. Seriously. Whatever contributions they make are dubious ones.

I would think that most of the Track and Field expense/waste are hidden under High Performance and not noted here. Interesting to note that I pretty much have unlimited cell phone service for $65.00 per month and John Chaplin charges USATF $900.00 for the first three months of 2008.

USATF won't pay for pictures yet they'll pay cell phone and 5 star hotel bills for everyone. That's nice. In the meantime photographers spend $20,000 on Canon cameras and MacIntosh computers and can't even get $50.00 for a picture from USATF. How about at least a t-shirt ?

These people just pat each other on the back and the fat cats get fatter. They know that mostly the national office and state associations pay for reps to attend the convention and those are esentially paid votes. If someone in the national office pays for your ticket/expenses who are you most likely to vote for? I challenge it will likely be someone within the establishment. These same people within the establishment also know that there will not be enough outsiders that pay their own way to the convention for the current estanblishment to be upended. Our sport is f--ked and people like Hightower, Roe and others getting elected will only make it worse. Again, we are F--KED!

I am not a person usually given to this kind of comment, but really, after all of these years and all of this behavior, get rid of all of them. All of them. Every last single one of them. Start over.

Only you and other card memebers can get rid of them as they are voted into these positions.

THIS IS NOT TRUE. You must be a USATF crony. Only the top 20% of athletes are allowed to vote at the convention, therefore only pre-selected voters are allowed to vote. And they keep voting for eachother.

Approx. 700 show up for the convention = 120 athletes per your comment. Are you saying that the other 580 are all USATF cronies. Each Association is allowed representation from a competing athlete. Athletes must apply through their Association to get funding - also, if really interested in change - could pay their OWN way.

Hey, I have a GREAT idea. let every USATF member vote! Why not have a TRANSPARENT mail-in or allow for internet voting?? Rather than force members to fork out for a wastefully expensive $1000 trip around the holidays to POSSIBLY be allowed to vote. Just a thought.

This is who gets to vote as of THIS year, the restructuring year:

The following persons shall be entitled to participate as voting delegates at USATF meetings, provided however, that all delegates must be at least 18 years of age, current USATF members, and, during the annual meeting, must be registered:

A. Officers and Board members: The officers and the members of the USATF Board, including non-voting Board members and the Counsel to the Board.

B. Nominating and Governance Panel Members.

C. Committee chairs: The chairs of all committees listed in Article 13-A.

D. Past presidents: The past presidents of USATF.

E. ASSOCIATION DELEGATES: Twelve (12) delegates from each of the accredited Associations referred to in Article 5-C, and recognized by USATF; in addition, a. Any accredited Association with more than one thousand (1,000) individual members shall be entitled to name one (1) additional delegate for each one thousand (1,000) individual members. Total Association individual members shall be determined based on the twelve (12) month registration period ending on October 31st of the prior calendar year. However, an Association whose membership has increased since then may petition the Organizational Services Committee seeking credentials for additional delegates. Each Association’s delegation shall meet the following requirements:

1. Membership: (no change);

2. Athletes: (no change);

3. Coaches: (no change); and

4. Dual roles: (no change); and

5. Sport committees: Each Association shall select among its delegates at least one (1) individual to represent each of its sport committees which that holds an Association championship.

F. Sports organizations: Ten (10) delegates named by each sports organization referred to in Article 5-DE and the exhibits section of this handbook and recognized by USATF.

G. Other constituencies: One (1) delegate named by each organization referred to in Article 5-EF, unless USATF shall vote to grant such an organization a greater number of delegates which shall be reflected in the exhibits section of this handbook. Notwithstanding the above, the members of the sports groups for the disabled, set forth in Article 5-EF and the exhibits section of this handbook, shall collectively have ten (10) delegates to be allocated by the Athletics for the Disabled Committee.

H. International Athletes: The members of the Athletes Advisory Committee (Article 1718-C) and such additional International Athlete delegates so that the number shall be at least twenty percent (20%) of the total number of delegates. Such athletes shall be elected by the International Athletes using a method approved by the Athletes Advisory Committee.

I. Alternates: (no change).

Seems like the person who devised these voting criteria also created the World Marathon Majors scoring system.

Exactly what i'd like to see, if we pay a usatf membership fee, we should ALL be allowed to vote on these things. I tried to pay my own way just so i could have one measly vote against this crap and would have just been there with no vote...because we already have an elite athlete rep going from my association....and of course we can only have one EAR, which is of course bollox. oh well, don't expect much to change, sorry.

As much as I like the idea of having every USATF member get a vote, the USOC will never go for it, unless something happens at the Congressional level (ie Congress forces USOC to make all sports federations change their voting procedures).

Also, can you imagine what would happen if they let every card member vote, including the U-18 athletes?

It's been said here before but I'll say it again. If you let every member vote, the federation would be ruled by youth, officials and a few masters runners. Not what I would like to see. Having said that, I'd like to see the current administration tossed.
