Southerner-
Hells yeah. That first post of yours hit the nail on the head. Galen Rupp should've never been able to run in the NCAA anyway, not that it matters now.
Further, Every other runner, team, and coach takes flak. Deal with it, its part of any sport ever. As soon as UO and Rupp do well everyone is supposed to jump on their nuts? Rupp doesn't represent the qualities that I admire in runners. Withrow was a runner and a BAMF, we need more men like him.
Rupp is a pampered tool with some talent, and I doubt runners of his talent were second as many times in major races as he was (Footlocker, NCAAs cross and track 10K, all after doing NO WORK and sitting like a beaotch). I wanted him to trip after clipping Sammy Chelenga's heels that whole race last year, so disappointing... Interesting how Dathan trained with him for like 2 months and is better than him now. Because he was a man first, then joined salazar, unlike rupp who was babied since hs.
It was referenced by the brojos themselves, so it should be bumped.
OK, so Scott Bauhs (who I respect) pointed out that Rupp (who I don't respect) ran in the snow in Edinburgh and didn't drop out, etc. He suggests that the whole "Rupp certified" debate is thus over.
WRONG. It has just changed. Maybe he's finally getting the point of XC, but meanwhile he's pulled out of races due to pollen and temps over 67.3 within the past year. The real question "Is your track Rupp-certified?"

Poor teenager! It must be hard to find out that Rupp is much tougher than you...

More talented? Absolutely. Tougher? I highly doubt it.
Let me count the ways.
I run far higher mileage.
I don't duck races because there might be pollen.
I don't duck races because there might be a temperature over 70 degrees.
Like Rupp, I've fallen during races. Unlike Rupp, I got up and finished. Granted, it wasn't at DN Galen, but still...
I don't think there's a measure of toughness where Rupp is number one among US runners...or even top 1000.
Ah you forgot about that tree on the sharp right hand fast downhill section just past the mile.... He might damage his nose on that....

You are also not a professional runner nor are even close to Rupp's PB so your critique it pretty pointless. But thanks for playing.
And for the record you are nowhere close to being as mentally tough as Rupp was/is. Remember what happened junior year at FL? He fell, had an asthma attack, and still tried to get up and finish. The only reason he didn't was because AlSal pushed him down and would not let him finish.
World XC- not Rupp Certified

This is the dumbest response I have ever seen. Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, yet reporters still criticized parts of his game. It's what people do. It's a fact that Rupp is afraid of tough courses. Doesn't mean he can't run well on them, he is just scared. This XC race will probably be the last hard course he ever does in his life. But people like you will point to this one race in 15 years that Rupp was not afraid to run on hard courses. This was all a stunt. They didn't even race in the varsity race. He is scared. He will always be scared. Yes, he is faster than me by minutes in a 5K, but he will never run a hard course ever again and definitely won't race the best on a hard course. Rupp is a baby. He really proved it when Chris spanked him in the 10K. Another thing, it's PR, not PB.

Do you have any more lies you would like to share with us?

You just don't get it.
I don't need to have a low 13/27 to say I'm tougher than Rupp, and more than I need to be Governor of Alaska to say I know more about Russia than Sarah Palin.
Rupp is talented. He seems to be a reasonably hard worker. He is not, however, tough. He rarely competes on hard courses or against competition where he isn't assured a high finish. And when he does, he routinely withdraws from or DNFs races. And he runs inside if it gets rainy. In Oregon.
By all of these measures, I am much tougher than Rupp. And I don't even consider myself halfway tough, compared with the many, many true beasts of the sport (Mo Farrah among them).
+1
Milton HS XC Course
Milton, GA
NOT Rupp Certified
It has way too many hills, a change of terrain every 400 meters or so, including: gravel, thin mulch, woodchips, grass and concrete. There are also many hazardous downhills on which he could slip and tree branches he could trip over. Salazar would have to be in peak marathon shape to be able to give him enthusiastic cheers throughout.
World XC:
Definitely not Rupp-certified.
Probability of loss >0.01
Hi, its me Galen making my first post on letsrun. You guys are right that I'm not very tough. In fact I'm a wuss and I feel down right terrible about it. Getting beat by Solinsky last spring has made me reconsider a lot about my life. I mean, Solinsky for chrissakes!
From now on, I will sleep on a bed of rocks at the center of the earth. No more pansy altitute for me. However, I will do the majority of my training in the death zone. Wouldn't want to make it easy by running below sea level. To toughen myself up for xc, I will be running across death valley over a period of how ever long it takes.
Lastly, to become a beautiful hearthrob like super tough Alan Webb is, I will be going with an Anton Krupicka hairstyle.
Revere HS XC Course (Howe Meadow)
Peninsula, OH
NOT Rupp Certified
Many ruts throughout the meadow and some higher un-cut grass. The forest loop features low-hanging tree limbs which may scar Galen's baby face.
Great to see you at Edinburgh.
Run more Brit courses, grow some stubble and work on the thousand-mile stare. Oh, yes, and lose the tights. When it snows, cut back to speedos. That'll shut them up.
The term / meme should have been "Alberto Salazar Certified."
I guess his very protective goal of keeping his athletes injury free proved to work out in London.
And you can bet he'll apply the same TLC to all his new charges...
