For our children to have success, parents and teachers need to work together. Parents have a responsibility to make sure their kids get enough sleep, are fed, have clothes and do their homework. Parents are their first teachers , yet they come to school and don’t even know how to write their names, hold a book correctly. Identify colors , shapes etc., I spend 90 minutes a day with each class and I work my tail off. I always give up my lunch for kids who want to come for extra help. I have contacted parents and asked them to have their children come to me at lunch to help their children. Guess what? They don’t show up! Why do you think it’s the teachers’ sole responsibility to fix every child? Where does the parents responsibility kick into gear? You may not have any sympathy but I will tell you the truth, there is no time in our day to do extra tutoring. We can’t take children out of other classes when we have a preparation period because then they will fall behind in that class. Teachers are human beings who also have a life outside of their school day. Do you think they should just give up seeing their children to give additional help to kids who don’t pay attention, talk during instruction and disrupt learning?
