Interested in becoming a driver for this company. Im talking about a route to follow day by day. Anyone a driver for UPS? How do I apply for this position? Call the hub and request an application?? The website is not very useful.

You have to start at the bottom and work your way up.
That means usually starting out part time as a package handler for the 4am shift. The route to driver varies from there depending on the hub you work at. It could take anywhere from a year to 8+ years.
Also, since you would most likely be starting out part time. You should find a copy of the new contract the teamsters and UPS just passed in August. It really screws new hires over. You won't get any health benefits for a year, 18 months for any dependents.
If you make a career out of UPS it is worth the suffering you will endure. Believe me, there will be suffering.
All package car drivers are promoted from within. Meaning you must work part time for a period of 2-5 years. Of course with the ecomony slowing there is a hiring freeze of drivers. The large metropolitian areas are more prone to hiring because of increased volume.
Oh yes I forgot..... they will work you to death and I am not kidding.
This post has come up before. The other person wanted to know about package handlers and tuition assistance. Everywhere I look on the internet describes the package handling job as being exhausting. Wouldn't working for the US Postal Service give you better benefits? I'd think they'd have a better retirement deal.

i was hired off the street as a full-time driver. been doing it for two years now. the pay is ridiculous, as are the benefits and the pension plan. the only drivers who are "worked to death" are the ones who let themselves be pushed around by their supervisors and managers. it's the best job in the world: you work by yourself, but have contact with other people all day, you're constantly physically active, you're outdoors most of the day, and there is absolutely no stress whatsoever.

i've been a driver for 17 years. i make about 80-85k a year, depending on o.t. full medical/dental/vision, 5 weeks paid vacation, plus a nice fat pension with 8 more years of service.
Really, name the city and center you work in?. Under what circumstances were you hired?. To say UPS hires drivers off the street is disingenuous. There exists specific contractual language between UPS and the Teamsters which forces UPS to promote from within. During the last 20 years I can cite two occasions when people were hired off the street. No stress.....ha ha ha. Since I am directly involved in the promotion of part time employees to full time drivers at UPS I would know.
There are no "old" UPS drivers - except maybe the ones who work the "mall route" - they have fought for years to get the cushy mall route. They pull up to the mall loading dock, unload then stroll around the mall making deliveries. Also the jr. guys get the shittiest route and they have to put out like there's no tomorrow because there are 10 other guys slinging boxes part time who have been waiting for a shot for 3 years.

They get a pension? I just thought they get a 401k matching. I guess that's pretty nice.
Teamsters pension plus you can contribute to a 401k plan. Drivers with 30 years of service are getting about 50k per year in retirement not counting SS or 401k.
What happens if you leave your job for a year or two or whatever reason (like to raise children)? Would you start back as a package handler again or would you have to move to somewhere where there is an opening for a driver? Does the teamster's pension transfer if you go to another company?
I did the 4 AM deal unloading tractor trailers. They yelled and screamed and there was a puerto rican walking around telling me to "move it!!" every 3 minutes. It was ridiculous. I can tolerate almost anything. But, this was stupid. it ruined my sleep pattern, my running, and made me tired all day long. Since then, I don't like PR's
We Union guys have ways of finding out who was pro Union before they became interested in getting a job with us. You have made negative comments about Unions in the past. No Union job for you !
Normally you cannot leave a full time position without having to start over as a part-time employee . Although time off is given for medical issues or birth of a child I believe you can take up to 3 months unpaid leave for the birth of a child. The full time positions are highly sought after. Once someone becomes full-time they usually make it their career.
Union Man, your statement is completely false. UPS hires the employees not the union. Actually it's a violation of law to even ask the question to a potential employee. New employee's go through a probationary period after which they become union members in good standing

Well, I just got home from my stress-free day at UPS.
Can you name one reason why I would fabricate anything about my personal hiring and employment experience at UPS, much less anonymously? Please let me know. You typify the lack of common sense and idiocy of the majority of management at UPS.
I was hired off the street after applying via the upsjobs.com website, as was the person immediately my senior in my center. I've never worked as a package handler, and knew no one at UPS until I was hired.
I will not disclose my city, SLIC, or any other information.
The Teamsters/UPS contract demands a ratio of inside-to-outside hiring of full-time drivers of 6:1, and I know of more than a handful of drivers who were off-the-street hires. There is nothing demanding that UPS hire drivers only by promoting from within. Inform yourself before spouting misinformation such as, "all package car drivers are promoted from within."
I am voting for redshift in this letsrun drama
