For UFC it depends on the the producer who get's written the winner, loser, and the acts that are played. The writer's union doesn't care. A job is a job. Take what you can get.
Many people from the armed forces fight in mma and the UFC. None are world champs.

Don't they get given guns for that sort of thing, or is that considered not macho or heroic enough for the US armed forces?
Do you have any idea how utterly average US marines are compared to other elite forces around the world? They wouldn't even make top 5 on the list.
The top UFC fighters learn plenty of moves that can kill you in seconds as well. If you have ever done any Krav maga you'll know how effective a full planned move can be for nuetralizing a target. The UFC guys are bigger, faster, stronger and specifically more skilled in the art of hand to hand close quarter compat than any elite force. Marines have many tactical skills but they are in no way as specifically trained as the top UFC fighters, rather the spend a lot more time focusing on situational possibilities and how to act in specific scenarios.
It shows how good the military advertising and propoganda is. I know a guy who was in the British SAS (a far superior force to the US marines). He ended up there training soldiers after his time behind the lines. This guy is strong...f'en strong, but theres no way he would hold a candle to chuck liddell.
The Marine would always win. The Marine has no rules. It's that way with the enemy. Do you think they have rules. The enemy will kill you and every child and baby at any minute of the day, any day of the week, from the rear, the trees, the sewers, whereever you don't think they are. UFC/MMA is a civilian job. It's safe with managed risk. They have civilian lawyers, doctors, union reps, social workers, etc. to protect them. Similar to civilan police, taxi drivers, forrestry, fire, oil refinery workers, corrections, etc. jobs who have numerous people to protect their workplace rights. MMA/UFC in addition has TV producers, script writers, coaches, makeup artists, referees, agents, etc. to care for them. The staged performances have rules, judges/referees. It's safe and sane. Everyone goes home alive. Isn't that sweet. The Marines don't have such comforts. That's what the Marines are for. To compare safe civilian entertainment jobs to the U.S. Marines is very silly I must say.

I'm sure SAS, SEAL, etc. are very good soldiers. But there is no superior force in the world to the U.S. Marine Corps.
Same Oh, you've got to be absolutely, 100% pulling my leg. On the international stage the U.S marines are a bit of a joke outfit compared to some of the forces that exist out there.
Mate was saying that Brits (SAS) were training with the Americans (U.S Marines) in Afghanistan. On this occasion they shared a simulated, practice scenario. The Brits had flown out to location and secured the target before the Americans made it to ground. Apparently this happened so often the Brits went on their own for most missions and the Americans were used as a reliever force...and these guys were the most elite of national forces.
The U.S Marines are way over-hyped as a means of national pride and self comfort.
I'll try to be clear, yet aware we are just trying to create scenarios:
to all those who have been in War: how much combat without weapons, H2HC if you will have you experienced with the enemy?
Especially with respect to shooting and bombing the enemy?
To all civilians who work in fighting-likely situations: how many have you had with respect to skillfully avoiding confrontation (I would imagine part of your job)?
The U.S. battle record speaks for itself. Man to man the English are a bunch of pussies.
.
What a joke. The UFC guy wins, hands down. Military propoganda is really doing its job. Most of the marine guys I know are in the crossfit program around here, always talking about how "extreme" it is. Reminds me of the x-games losers from Harold and Kumar.
I appreciate our armed forces, but a UFC fighter who trains in hand-to-hand combat situations would beat the hell out of a SEAL or Recon. I mean really. How often, in battle, do those guys have to engage in up close, hand-to-hand combat? This isn't exactly the middle ages.
While I agree that the UFC fighter would win in a hand to hand fight ~75% of the time, one thing that you people need to stop doing is putting Marines on the same level as SF units (SEAL, delta, green beret, recon, SAS, GSG 9, etc.).
The Marines are a good grunt unit but nothing more. In a fight between a Marine and any special forces soldier the SF operator wins everytime.
In other words: UFC is to middle school wrestlers as SF is to Marines
Youse guyz are victims of Hollywood TV hype. They stage UFC, WWE, and MMA. It's a great show. I know because I work TV. I love it.
The Pentagon has an office on Wilshire Blvd that reviews scripts and approves assistance for TV and movies that flatter the armed services. If the Pentagon agrees to cooperate, the producer must agree to Pentagon film cuts, I.E. edits & censorship. Since the 60's the SEAL, SAS, Delta, GB soldiers became such a big deal that way. Before that they didn't even exist. They were made by Hollywood for Pentagon brass. I worked many movie sets in Culver City, L.A. etc. Producers love to suck up to the brass, and I love the work. It's great.

Jeez you're such an idiot!!!! i keep hearing this as an answer so since you can't use your head i'll enlighten you:
marine's, navy SEALS, and such aren't trained to fight and do holds, hits and stuff that are LEGAL, they are trained to KILL, theres no use trying to grapple around with someone when you need to kill someone.. so when they enter UFC competition they have to change and train for COMPETITION, YOu wont see St. Pierre training to do stuff that would kill fast it would be a waste of time. Some of you people are idiots
This tops my list as one of the dumbest letsrun threads of all time.
Who's in better shape? The UFC guy
Who trains more? The UFC guy
Who has fine tuned every one of his skills? The UFC guy
Who wins? The UFC guy 99 times out of 100.
There's an argument that the marine is trained to kill within 15 seconds. Do you really think the UFC guy is completely ignorant on any ways to kill? Do you really think the marine is a killing machine who kills in hand to hand combat on a daily basis?
Are we talking Steven Segal navy seal?? Navy seal hands down
I'd like to know how you kill someone in 15 seconds without a weapon other than just punching them really hard. Even suffocating someone takes minutes for them to actually die.
Many of the stunt guys come out of Arizona State's wrestling program. In WWE/UFC/MMA action anyone can be tough guy with one dozen support crewmembers taking care of you. You just need a 'roid personal that sells commercials, i.e. turn on the Stephaine Hightower act ;-) You can have your mother, sisters, the Oregon womens distance team, and Ralph Nader there to protect you. The ref makes sure the fight stops before any injuries. The scriptwriters never get the action the way they want it, always alot of ad libs. The writers are behind stage unlike Leno where they sit in tne 1st row.
The SF, GB, SAS, Delta, SEAL groups are mid-career lifers, late 20s to 30s. They are beyond the 13-19 year old prime age for soldiering. Warmongers since the last Ice Age have used kids in war since kids are supid and do not believe they will die. After 20, you are afraid to die. That's how the mind of the human species has developed, and Generals know that.
Starting in the 1960's, the Pentagon Generals created the elite groups to make more stars, i.e. to get promoted. But as far as I can tell the elites are just regular soldiers. In fact they can be worse that the young kids, they are for career types not draftees and "I'm White Trash and need money for College" enlistment types. The elites get cute ornaments and patches too. They look real slick to women too.
Alot of Hollywood footage was shot on the islands off of San Diego. Marines use Recon & Anglico boys the same as the other Marines. Plus they can be young kids too.
So enjoy the TV and action flicks that Akira Kurosawa invented in the 1950s, Hollywood copied, made the lives of millions in Hollywood and L.A. It's paid for my 5 kids, and 11 grandkids. Not all are runners, but they are all my babies ;-)
