Why so negative? Would it kill him to say congrats on a silver????

"Sweep the leg!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6Lq3THQFwASeemed a bit over the top considering she just won the silver.
Somebody should have kicked that guy in the head.
I dont care what they say in "Coaching 101". She did an amazing job and her coach has no dignity being as harsh as he was. I've watched her from the beginning of this winter and she has come very far. I was surprised to see her doing as well as she did.
You earn what you get. When second is the outcome you're thankful and congratulatory and learn that gold is next. Done. Grow up sir.
i think he had no right to say that, but thats my perspective. i know nothing of their relationship.
the flagrant foul in my opinion belongs to NBC for broadcasting that.
Does everybody realize the whole pv footage was edited to make the coach look like a jerk? world record broken in the competition, US wins the silver and you walk away wondering if all coaches in the US are direct descendants of Vince Lombardi. Another great T&F session for America to digest.
No, what I realize is that the coach IS a jerk. Of course, Jenn doesn't want to lose, but Christ, she's #2 in the world to a superwoman, and this happens once every four years. Lighten up. What a turd the guy is.
Who is it? What is his name?
Don't BS on this call him out and say who it was.

Maybe it was good coaching.
Who's that guy that bit that lady?
Marv Something?
Jenn's coach is like Marv Something: great sportscaster, big weirdo creep.

Some coaches can motivate by negativity, and can even be quite successful. But at what cost? Karolyi, as I understand it, could be very abusive to the gymnasts he worked with, and while some won gold, too many others were hurt.
This coach needs to get a grip. It's the Olympics, and the athlete he coached just won silver. And despite all the sayings about not winning silver but losing gold, it's still winning!
Of course, if he's blustery by temperament, she may have gotten so used to his behavior that she's able to let his response roll off her back.
After all, to be able to progress that far in her sport in such a short time isn't just about his coaching but about her own strength--mental as well as physical.
Sad to say, often gold is held up as the only color medal that matters.
Yet winning any the top three places in the world in a particular sport is an accomplishment most of us never reach, let alone even competing in the Olympics.
At some point, there has to be some positive reinforcement. If the guy couldn't give it in this situation, after a silver medal, he's pretty twisted.
Well said ole wise one :-)on many accounts. However, based on what I saw from Jenn's reaction is that negativity is not a clear motivator. Moreoever, in my experience as an athlete, I have never witnessed such a disgraceful display of behavior or lack thereof from a coach to his pupil on such a monumental accomplishment no matter what their relationship encompasses. It was if he dismissed her and her performance while typing away on his crackberry.
Two things I would have done if I was her or her father/mother/brother/sister/boyfriend/husband/friend: 1.smack him over his head and 2. do the Trump: Your fired!
What did he say?

He ripped her performance apart down in front of a world-wide audience, making it clearly know that if she had only done thing "his way" she would have been an Olympic Champion.
She looked like she was going to cry when she should have been happier than shit that she won the silver medal.
Oh, and he said the word "meatgrinder" eight times.
Sorry that reply was for Mr.Wisen and not dpm.
