Okay,
The article doesn't say that she was dropped but that's what the writer meant. He certainly omitted that part. Very poor work from a journalist and his editor.

The Ethiopian Athletics Federation has picked the country’s final Beijing Olympics team and dropped the reserves who had been placed on stand-by.
The Ethiopians are also playing their cards so close to their chest that they have not yet confirmed whether world champions Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba would attempt a 5,000m and 10,000m double at the Beijing Games.
Instead, they have both been entered in the 10,000m and named as reserves in the 5,000m teams. The decision comes as Athletics Kenya maintained that athletes on its reserves list would travel to Beijing and await the final team selection on the eve of competition.
It also comes hot on the heels of a physical confrontation between two members of Ethiopia’s marathon team - Dire Tune and Bezunesh Bekele - who came to blows last Thursday following an argument over who deserved a place in the Olympic marathon team.
Interestingly, Dire, this year’s Boston Marathon champion, has been retained in the team and Bezunesh - who has the fastest time this season among the Ethiopians of two hours, 23 minutes and nine seconds, which she ran in this year’s Dubai Marathon.
The other two athletes in the marathon team are veteran Gete Wami, winner of last year’s World Marathon Majors, and Berhane Adere.
However, world marathon champion and twice Olympic Games 10,000 metres gold medallist, Haile Gebrselassie, has been maintained in the 10,000m team despite concern over his fitness. Gebrselassie is yet to start training on the track due to a torn calf muscle injury. In the men’s marathon Gashaw Melese was selected and Gudisa Shentema dropped.
