computer question - ide to sata

    I bought a ide to sata converter to install my old hdd into my new computer chassis, but I cannot get it to work. i have an open 4 pin power wire running to the converter, but do i need a seperate one for the hdd to which it is attached?

    use only 1 power cord, if you plug in both (2) the drive will short.
