Since Duke is private it is going to an issue of contract law as near as I can tell.
However, I think an argument that Duke could make is that 1) it is not Duke's job to prepare you for the PGA Tour and 2) there is an avenue outside of collegiate golf to become a pro.
He was too busy with golf to support his dad's campaign.
Plus, he wasnt all that great...
The terms Duke, golf, and Guiliani, all within the same thread, officially qualify this discussion as a complete waste of time.
I think the mens track coaches should also cut the team down to 7 people as well, man they suck!
I know an athlete in track and field/cross country that has filed a lawsuit against the school/athletic department/Head Coach/AD that kicked him off the team. It's a fairly entertaining story. I know he lurks on these boards, perhaps he will come on here and tell the very sad and touching story of dreams lost...potential never realized...and the pain of being denied his God given right to be on a D-I team!
Did he go through the appeals process and lose that too? If so, he should look into whether anyone on the appeals committee was associated with the athletic department (email correspondence), which is against NCAA policy.
i find these situations so weird, regardless of whether it slightly involves a public figure or not. what is this kid thinking? best case scenario: i get back on the team. worst case: he's still off the team. even if he is reinstated, everyone is going to hate him!
Honestly. I'd think you'd have to be a sick golfer to play at Duke...
I dont see why everyone is ripping on the kid. My D-I very prominent school doesnt kick anyone of their teams for performance related issues. If you tell a high school kid, "Hey come to Duke play here and be a great golfer" there is an assumption that it will be for four years, unless specified ahead of time. I would feel screwed over if they threw me off the team before my four years were up if I was trying my best. There is an understood contract that because the kid committed to your school he should have the opportunity to play for four years. If it was behavior related then that is a different story however.
i should do the same, my coach kicked me off the team!
"The 198-page lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court by Durham attorney Robert Ekstrand"
Holy geez, ive never sued anyone before but 198 pages seems like a lot of writing. Maybe he could have spent that time on the course getting better at his putting!
thats why he hired a lawyer to write it for him you dumbass. The kid hasnt even graduated college yet you moron
Easy buddy, im only kidding. Seriously though, 198 pages is a lot of writing for what the lawsuit is for.
He sounds like your typical cry-baby spolied brat that expects Mommy and Daddy's money to fix everything. His best performance was tied for 36th! If he is any good I'm sure there are plenty of other avenues for someone 'born of wealth'.
i was going to say the same thing.. he should transfer to a D3 school that has a good program
I do get it wrote:

It doesnt, but in cases of people who have famous parents, they have a big sense of entitlement and feel they deserve more than others. simple idea kid--coach wants to cut a few that arent up to par, you are one of them--Deal with it...
just because your daddy is the EX Mayor of NYC doesn't mean shit. if you stink, then you stink. try elsewhere, your dad is famous, NOT YOU. you gotta take your licks and earn your way to the top just like the other boys.
