I heard rumors that she's been training in Mexico City to try to acclimate to the Olympic climate. Other than that, it seems that there's not much talk about her. Does anyone know what's going on with her?

No word at all?
This is fiarly recent
Why, sure. Not only is she training in the 8,000' high smog of Mexico City, she's living on fortune cookies and soy sauce. To, you know, acclimate to Beijing. Or acclimatize, or acclimatizate, or whatever.
Oh and by the way, I'm being sarcastic. She's been preparing to run a marathon, believe it or not, in the same place(s) and in the usual way. So settle down.
Deena was knocking out 4:50 mile reps at 7,000+ altitude in Mammoth less than two weeks ago according to a guy I coach. Ryan Hall 4:30s+. They looked impressive and smooth.
Why would she go to Mexico City? One cannot acclimate to pollution.
She prepared herself quite well for Athens and Beijing will be close to the same weather conditions although a very flat course--very, very flat!

Maybe someone paid for her trip to Mexican wine country?

Thank you for clearing up the fact that the Beijing course is very, very flat. Your use of words rank right up there with people that give a "110% effort" and those that find something "very unique" (unique can't be modified).

I promise you that if Deena doesn't run well in Beijing it will not be on account of her preparation. Deena is well aware of what it takes to prepare and she will be ready.
You are correct that you can't prepare for pollution so all of us have just accepted that we will all be in the same boat.
You are also correct that the course will be flat.
You are wrong if you are comparing conditions to Athens. The weather conditions will be far more brutal in Beijing. The temperatures will be warmer and the humidity will be almost double. The good news is that we are all well aware of this fact and are trying to prepare accordingly. Osaka is a better weather comparison than Athens.
Mr. Hanson,
I am not trying to be disrespectful but you have no idea how Deena's training is going. She could be hurt and not want anyone to know. Do you believe that she hasn't updated her blog since Eugene because things are going perfect? This reminds me how they tried to hide Kate O'Neill's injuries prior to the trials.
Hmmm...a reputable Kevin Hanson or an anonymous poster. Hmmm...who should I go with? Tough call there.

maybe she has not updated her blog lately because taking care of some business on august 17th may be more important to her.
i dont know, just a possibility.
I thought that she would be running the NY half this weekend. It would be a nice fitness check going into Beijing. She might be a little dinged up.
Well are you trying to be ignorant, then? Apparently all you know is what you read on blogs. Kevin Hanson has at least a slightly better idea because he was there at the marathon summit in Colorado Springs and he (along with many of us) knows that the team that prepared her for Athens is the same team that will be preparing her for Beijing and they couldn't have done a better job than they did in 2004. Maybe she's a too little preoccupied to post a blog entry so that clumsy fools can read and think they know it all.
