And the Oscar goes to Dean Karnazes. Calling it right now it will probably be one of the great cinematic events of all time. Maybe not as good as the Godfather but on par with Casablanca.
I'll be there!
OMG! Maybe they're the same person!
I'm sure this has been discussed in another DK thread, but I saw a 60 minute spot on Yahoo! today which hyped a spot on DK stating "This man has likely run more than any living person".
Who thinks this crap up for him?
You think 60 minutes tells DK what they are going to say...??
You think that 60 minutes doesn't do that for EVERY lead-in...its a tease...the reason you don't change the channel..
Lost in his movie mayhem is the fact that Sam Thompson finished his 51 in 50 in 50 before Dean even started and another guy, Dane Rauschenberg did one real marathon every weekend for an entire year. Wonder if they movie mentions either of those guys?
Dean K = the joker
Anything that motivates people to get off their asses and exercise is fine with me, but please give credit where credit is due. Like Dane R., Chuck Engle also ran a marathon every weekend (2006?) with most being under 2:45 (
) and Brad Alsop ran a marathon 131 days in a row to raise money for a charity. Dean just has the resources that others lack. Strange.
(aside: on the link from OP, did you see the guy in the first video run into the pole? I don't think he was going fast enough to hurt himself. )
Actually Chuck tried but failed. He ran 50 marathons but they weren't consecutive. He ran one on a treadmill and one the day before a race and tried to declare himself the winner. He's fast and what he did was impressive but he didn't achieve his original stated goal.
As for Alsop, I think we can agree it is impressive but running a marathon distance and running a "marathon" are completely separate things.
I think that is why, amongst other reasons, so many people are irked by Dean K's 50 in 50. Only 7 were actual marathons.
DK=Donkey Kong
Dead Kennedy

Yes, you are correct. (it is my understanding that Englr counted his treadmill run the day prior to NYC and then during t helast week of December a NW race date changed so he ran te hactual course the day before - claiming victiry is clearly wrong - but the effort nonetheless is the same)My point is still that what Engle and Alsop accomplished, regardless of their original goals, are more impressive. And Sam T. accomplished the same thing PRIOR to Karnazes. They just weren't motivated (ego?)or financially able to self promote themselves.
As was Rauschenberg's.
What ever happened to Donkey Kong?
I'm currently over on Mario Kart for nintendo Wii. I actually just won the star cup, beating yoshi by one point.
Time actually named him to the list of 100 most influential people in the world???
Does anyone have the a link to the article?
