I think your link is wrong.
Everyone knows that 98% of all rumors repeated on letsrun.com are true.
The correct link is here:

Why is Chad leaving UofO and running "heaven"????? didn't get along with VL?
He probably wants to be a #1 runner on some other team rather than be down the totem pole. With so much talent there, he is pretty much overshadowed in every event.
If you can't even beat your own teammates, then how do you expect to finish be a world beater?
That doesn't mean you have to delete them.
ie, the thread questioning the future location of Chris Barncile...
would assume that this has something to with Irv Ray

a very good coach who worked with Ryan Hall in HS (and possibly with Chad previously?)

i dont blame blame chad one bit. As a former Vin disciple, i can say first hand that Vin lacks as a coach on the one on one level. The only reason most of the guys on the team haven't left is prob because they love simply "running for oregon," not because of Vin's great coaching abilities. Lannana achieves great XC success as he takes who every is ready and fit and the time, and in comparison very little success on the track due his lack of nurture to budding athletes. Obviously, there are great exceptions such as Wheating, but one could also argue that he would have done well no matter where he went.

Really? 1-2-3 two years in a row (and a third year of (1-2-4) at NCAAs in the 10K, along with multiple national champions in the 1500m/mile = "very little success on the track"?
I'm also guessing he wants to be closer to his big brother in Mammoth Lakes.
Maybe U of O was too heathen for him

i believe this is the main reason (just my opinion) but also the fact that his gf goes to CS Fullerton and that its much closer to home is also a couple factors. But like you just said, Irv Ray is a big reason why he's goin there. From what i remember Chad was lookin into UCR even before choosing Oregon
Irv Ray is not really a great coach either guys? Have you been coached by him?
It is amazing the pull some coaches have on people. Webb's HS coach, Rupp and Salazar, and now this.

I actually got a chance to talk with Chad's dad at the Trials in Eugene last week. He indicated that Chad loved the coaching and Eugene, but was a looking for a different team experience than what was present at U of O.

Not that far from the truth.
U of Oregon (along with Nike) is borderline criminal in how they recruit, how they cheat, or should I say manipulate the rules to get what they want. It is sometimes very difficult to see this when you are insulated by the system. I know first hand that German was not interested in Oregon because of the practices of Vinnie and Alberto and the entire Nike machine.
Chad is a man of God and although this way of doing business may not be criminal it certainly is not ethical. Again, THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY NIKE. Chad's brother is a high profile Asics athlete that is no longer a Nike guy (like he was at Stanford). Ryan is privy to the hypocricy that is Eugene, Nike, and U of O. As an outsider, he can shed some light on the situation to his younger brother. It is sickening to those that have been on both sides of things.
How is U of O criminal?? I think it is crazy people come on this message board and rip U of O with no evidence to back it up?? So they get money from Nike, so do hundreds of other schools, including other XC teams, but is that criminal?? Phil Knight is an alum so you would expect alot of money would go Oregon's way. Is Nebraska criminal because Warren Buffett gives lots of money to that school? There is no "cheating" going on so leave your bitterness at the door.
That being said, I cannot understand why Hall is transferring to UCR. Since Pina and Lara graduate, they basically have no guys on their team that can run under 14:50 or so for the 5k. They will be mid to back of the pac at Big West. I assume this is mostly because he is a bit homesick and I guess wants to be around Irv Ray.
i believe chad also has a girlfriend that goes there or is in the area?
I never said that they were criminal. I said "borderline". I did say that they are unethical. Ethics are in the eye of the beholder. Chad Hall has a higher standard of ethics than Oregon. That doesn't make either of them wrong. Just a bad fit. German happens to be more like Chad Hall when it comes to ethics than he does to Oregon. I am in no way passing judgement. I will point out that Alberto was and is a perfect Oregon. Oregon and Nike is the most excellent fit.
Thank god that there is choices for everyone. Thank god that Chad Hall recognized this at a young age. Thank god that German figured it out even earlier.
Maybe he wanted a better quality of education.
