Why do we have to like Galen?
I'm a yankees fan, I know Boston is a good baseball team, however I hate them.
I'm a raiders fan, so I hate the Broncos.
It's part of sport to have people you cheer for and people you hate. I don't see why all the fanboys are crying that people don't like or support Rupp. OMG the audacity that someone would cheer against another runner!?! Grow up, no one's jealous, they just don't like the kid. You don't have to like every single person in this sport.
Pure, utter jealousy on this board, that's all it is. Anyone who's done better than the average letsrun poster is a target for jealousy.
I find almost all the hating threads to be jejune and tiresome ...and in the case of adults, neotenic.
I have met Galen Rupp a few times and he is a decent guy. I guess some people are jealous of his success and his decision making. He is certainly a talented runner.

Rupp sure shows a lot more maturity than most of you Letsrunners. In a flotrack interview, he said something like "Yea, people will always have something to hate on. There will always be people who will always find something to hate about you. I just do my best to ignore it and keep training harder." etc.
It's ridiculous that one of the best young runners who could very well be a medal threat in the next 8 years is bashed upon so much.
I really, really hope a lot of the younger top runners today (Hasay, Fernandez, etc) don't read some of the stuff that goes on this message board.

zOMG it's like SO ridiculous when you don't love everyone. How can anyone hate someone else. We should all be fans of each other. You know what that means, no negative comments about my post. SUCKAZ. Its cool its cool. Big lovefest zOMG you all should respect me and be cheering for me to run, cause I run and you run, therefore like we both run. And cince that's true we should all be friends and cheer for each other.
NO HATE!
You really can't pay too much attention to the haters who post here. Basically, Wejo loves it because he gets more hits (money) on his board and laughs his way to the bank. Afterall, let's see, these retards hate AlSal, Masback, USATF, Nike, Webb, Hasay, Symmonds, Wheating, John Chapman, etc., etc.
The OTs - running the 5k heats, qualifying, DECLARING, then DNSing. Thats an asshole move....him and Rohatinsky (already the member of another cult) did not need to do that. It served no additional purpose, as a time trial down the road could have accomplished their goals just as easily.
.....selfish....
Two great new words (for me) in one post. Would like to learn more about psychological neoteny but I have to meet up with my friends at the mall.
John Chaplin deserves the hate because he has been running afoul of the rules in some way for two decades. He is a villian in the sport and if you haven't figured that out by now I know who must be cutting your paychecks.
No comparison to Rupp.
Rupp is the Notre Dame persona of running (when they were good in football). America's adopted, fawned over college team with the Golden Domed helmets, and yet, faced with a lot of jealousy too.
Yeah, Notre Dame's record over the past decade is certainly something to envy among D1 powerhouses. Not even Nebraska would be jealous of ND's program right now. At least ND has actually won something in the past, though, unlike Rupp. Rupp is more like the Cubs of running, the recipient of undue adoration despite always failing to win the big one. Or maybe more like the Yankees since 2000, with a huge advantage in payroll yet routinely get beat in the playoffs by lesser talent.
What kind of a name is Galen, anyway?

Careful, pointing out the facts may get you some responses that show how jealous you are of Rupp.

trust me, there are LOTS of people out there that are better than the average letsrun poster who don't attract nearly as much hate.
it not because he's fast, it's because he's a pampered little prima donna.
AND he's an ass taboot. Yes, it is easy to determine collectively that we are jealous. No doubt that we all wish we could run as fast as times he has put up. But look at the whole picture. The OT trials move, the disproportionate advantages he has compared to other college athletes, the breathe right, the list goes on. And don't be a fool asnd say, "you would have used all the things he has..." Hell yeah I would have, but the fact of the matter is all us ex-collegians that worked our ass off for 4 years NEVER had those things handed to us. How many people have those advantages even as a pro? You think Famiglietti uses that kind of crap? No, he just works his ass off everyday to be the best he can be without some gold nugget dingleberry hanging off of his rear.
AGREED, Rupp's a talented young runner, but so were Ian Dobson, Gabe Jennings, Michael Stember, Ritz, Chris Solinsky... so were a lot of people. However, these folks weren't asses.
