Listen, I'm a liberal and progressive, which doesn't mean that I condone cheating. To address some of the issues: He has already won two national championships and was Washington Post All-Met:http://www.milesplit.us/articles/18737 and: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/hssports/longterm/allmets/spring08/boys_track.html and I don't see how he can NOT be Runner of the Year (unless he gets caught). To see some pictures of Semunguse in Austria last year as a 20-year old, go to: http://www.firstfotofactory.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi start no: 7383 |

It's gotta be the watch!

There is no doubt that the two are the same person. It has been said by the man (emphasis on man) himself. |

i think the guy talking about the watch is just trying to show another way this guy is cheating...bending the rules. |

Remember that the kid's passport is the thing to look for here. He did not come to America to dominate HS track, he came to get an agent and make some money. If he has his original passport, it will have a valid birth date on it. He wasn't thinking that he had to be a certain age when he got here so there was no reason to fake something. On the other hand if he got a new passport since he came to America, I would not put much credence in it. |

It's not a very compelling argument. |

There is no strict age limit. In D1 there is a limit, but you need to interpret it: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?ContentID=420 |

Give me a f***ing break. Do you know anything about US immigration policy? All legal residents are subject to the same taxes and thus benefits of the federal and state governments. I'm sure this kid was born in Ethiopia but he's here legally. Were you bitching up a storm when Sanya Richards broke the high school indoor 400m record as a Jamaican citizen? Assuming his paperwork is all in order, he has every right to compete for his high school as anyone else. Of course, the DOB listed in his passport and on record with the US and Ethiopian governments may not be the actual day (or year) that he came into the world. Shit like that happens all the time in Ethiopia, particularly if he was born in the country, well outside of Addis (unlikely, though, as it's people in the city who will have more resources and a better understanding of English and thus be better able to leave). |

I heard one split last race. It was at 4 miles into an 8k. It changed everything. |

The point - real mobile9 - is that I'm fed up with illegals and more importantly, Americans who have np problems with their ruining this country. I would agree w/ you if we were talking strictly about LEGAL citizens but I was not. I'm glad you are sure this kid was born in Ethiopia and is here legally. What makes you so sure? OK everyone, back off this "kid". The real mobile9 is sure he's here legally. |

In MD, you are aloud to wear a watch, I don't know about in NY though, where the race took place. But I never wear a watch and rarely hear splits, it doesn't affect me much. |

Because he's Ethiopian. Ever meet any? They tend to do things by the books and (like most African immigrants) are very driven to go by the rules and advance themselves via education. And this isn't a f***ing walk across the border. This kid and his folks had to have an appointment at the US embassy in Addis, go through their passports, birth certificates, list all academic institutions they attended, etc. The US does some background checking before it issues visas (which he'll need to get into the country coming by plane). That's why. Like I said, it could very well be that he's older than what he says, but I'd be surprised if what he says is different than what all his legal documentation states. |

"the real mobile9", you are an idiot. All Ethiopians are above board? There are no criminals or anything of the like in that country? Not all illegal immigrants come from Mexico and Central America. Some are European, East Asian, and yes, African. |

If you have evidence that Solomon Haile's family defrauded USCIS, please go ahead and present it. Please. I implore you. Please detail the extent of their fradulent I-130. You're familiar with I-130s, right? And by the way, in my experience, Addis is one of the safest cities you'll find in Africa. |

If we never learn his true age, and the record is upheld, it should simply have an asterik next to it. Haile seems like a nice enough kid. Even if he is 20, 21, 30, he came to the country seeking a better life--not just to break course records and win small change in road races. Maybe we'll all learn the real truth soon, but I kind of doubt it. An asterik solves these problems. |
